So I got into a small argument with a dept supervisor about her trying to contact me. She calls my main line but since I am always out and about I rarely can pick up. That said, I am accessible via email + cell phone.

My supervisor agrees with me and told her that I am correct in asking to be reached via email.

So then she responds w/ copy to super about how she has seen me 'one time' out on the street doing who knows what. The insinuation here is that I am eating shit at work instead of doing my job.

Of course this is petty because I only go out for lunch.

WTF?

Given the chance, people will try to make others who annoy them look bad and will try to do it in front of as many people as possible.

There are two ways to correct this:

1) Don't annoy them - see life from their perspective and give them what they want with as little fuss as possible.
2) Catch them in the wrong where they escalated to all those people. If you can do this, then you can respond to all and show them where they are wrong.

2 has the risk of escalating since some poeple don't know how to back down even when they are wrong.

This and some people just shouldn't be in charge of others period. I've know plenty of control freaks on power trips that were supervisors/managers in my time and I know I'll run into more. I've also known many good people in those positions as well.

Basically you have three choices. Suck it up and deal with it, escalate the annoyance factor you give, or find a way to show the world what a prick they are and hope they get fired over it instead of you.
