Imgur protest blackout planned for 1st Sept

Great way of making zero difference in the world.
No one cares. No one will notice. Has no lasting impact.

Low effort, low impact.

Shit like this is why the United States let's people like Trump and all his minions run things.

"Lets not do anything on imgur for day!"

With respect, the rise of fascism in one's own country and the enshittification of a social networking platform don't have an awful lot in common.

Also, imgur over the last few days has been flooded with anti-Medialabs memes and NSFW content (which isn't likely to change at any point soon), so it's hardly as if the blackout is a single act on its own that's meant to achieve something.

For what it's worth, the userbase has been in active revolt for like three days now. Yeah it's 'just imgur' but the entire platform is based on user-provided content so it's pretty well hamstrung the entire operation.

In the end it'll just end up being a tax write-off for medialab but at least there won't be an active participation in the ongoing enshittification of our society.

Isn't this the general issue with many policy issues in the US? "We should do something about X, but it shouldn't inconvenience me in any way, shape, or form."

What I almost posted here yesterday: One thing I've learned about myself (but I'm not really surprised about) is that I have a pretty low tolerance for loads of varying levels of thirst content. I'm in my forties and browsing imgur right now feels like something I'm a few decades past enjoying.

Today: imgur is like wall-to-wall dick pics.
