Ok, so I spent the extra $3-4 bucks for the Harry Potter (Half Blood Prince) IMAX 3D instead of the regular IMAX. Only the opening scene is in 3D. Seriously, 10 minutes, maybe even less. This must the latest gimmick, what a crock of sht. Are the cartoon IMAX 3D's 3D for the entire flick? Anyway, this will be my last "IMAX 3D" movie. /rant

This isn't new. The last few IMAX releases of HP have had some scenes in 3D.

Most theaters won't charge full IMAX 3D pricing because they generally don't amount to any more than 15 minutes worth of 3D. I'd attribute this to poor pricing strategy on the part of the theater you went to.

Yes all the 'toon' 3D are in full 3D. Some of them I guess are really cool.

The Christmas Carol looked really cool, if that's for the entire movie that might be worth it.

Yeah, probably because I live in a more expensive area so that's why tix were pricey.

Apparently Final Destination is in full 3D, so that sucks HP wasn't. You'd think with such a huge franchise like Harry Potter = they could pony up the extra dough for a full 3D movie. Fockers.

I'm not sure what happened with the IMAX company, maybe new management or ownership, but they've been diluting their name for the last few years.

Even then its still just one more thing getting in the way of the story.

Up in 3D was awful. I enjoyed it far more in 2D. The colors were much brighter, and didn't feel so gimicky. 3D done just for the sake of being in 3D is silly, 3D done properly, can be great. I saw the 16 minute Avatar preview on Imax 3D, and THAT was an example of well done 3D. Best I've ever seen frankly. (no idea if the whole movie is any good or not, but it'll definitely set the bar as far as how 3D should & should not be used in movies)

I don't think 3D shit works for me because my eyes don't see in stereo.. it just looks blury and shitty and gives me a headache.

Same thing with Up! Not every scene is in 3D. Oh well.

It was for Disney Real 3D

I saw it in DR3D and it wasn't. Maybe 20 minutes worth of 3D.

Still was a great movie, and some of the scenes looked pretty cool in 3D. No extra charge at the theater I went to so it was a nice value add.

Saw Up in 3D was really impressed. Saw Monsters vs. Aliens in Imax 3D, not so much... (maybe it was because of the content)

can I ask what this whole IMAX in regular theater thing is? I watched Transformers 2 and TBH the screen wasn't any larger. Maybe it was, but it wasn't like a fucking football field screen that I once remembered. I remember walking up stairs and multi levels when I watched IMAX at the Luxor in Vegas.

Ok that's fine, but to me the screen was sharper. Is this true? It felt more like going SD => HD or something. Well it wasn't THAT dramatic, but maybe it was like 480p DVD resolution to 1080p BD resolution. What do you guys think?
