Best Buy has Imation 50pack 700mb CDRs on sale this week for $20. . . you can also get them off the web site, and I think that they still have free shipping. . . I grabbed a spindle today at one of their B&M stores. . . good discs for the money, IMHO.

This is off-topic, kinda of, but do some CDWriters have trouble with the 700mb CDRs versus the 650md CDRs? I have two different packs of 700mb CDRs from two different companies that are just not writing on one of my burners but is fine in my plextor. 650mb CDRs seem to work fine. Is this a consistent finding?

Outpost has good deals on Kingston CDRs Imations are overpriced.

Kingstons are so so. My roommate went through about 50 of them not anywhere as good as Imations. I noticed a few of the cds I burned would skip on ocassion. I have never had that problem with Imations.

bonedoctor, a 700 MB CD uses the same physical disc space as a 650 MB one. The difference is that the spiral "groove" that the laser follows is more tightly wound on the 700 MB CD. It is unusual, but not unheard of, for a recorder or player not to be able to follow that tighter groove. This would mainly occur with older hardware.

cd-r identifier info anyone? I'm worried that since it's so cheap, the cd-rs would be made by ritek - hopefully not.

The Kingston stuff they sell from Outpost, IS MUCHO SUCKY!!!!. My portable CD-Player has trouble reading them and I've gone through many. I am NEVER buying these CDs again. They are good for computer use, but other than that, they are suck big time.

cremefilled, maybe I'm mistaken but I was under the impression that the extra 60MB comes from the extra "safety space" at the edge of the disc that is usually not used. If the spirals were more tightly wound on the discs then you would have to change the frequency of the laser to read them. Just a little FYI. I didn't spend a semester in the EE class from hell for nothing.

Well amnesiac 2.0, we (or at least I) respect your EE knowledge but cremefilled is right. The spiral is more tightly "wound" if you want to think about it that way. cdrecordable.com has info on their page, that's the best I could find in a few minutes. I knew I read this info elsewhere, but I don't remember where at the moment.
