Imaging a NTFS Whistler partition.....

I use Ghost 2001 and have previously used it to make an image of a clean instal+popular apps/utils for Win98SE on FAT32 C: but ive installed Whistler Beta 1 on an NTFS D: and ghost wont work on it. It just throws a wobly at me saying theres problems with something to do with some NTFS file thing (sorry, dont have a copy of message but ill replicate if need be) on the partition and i should run chkdsk to fix it - theres no problem reported :)
It gives the option to continue but then it just does it again and stops. It also gives the option to do a sector read of the partition instead but i havent tried that yet.

I had to reinstall whistler once after NAV 2001 screwed it silly (does anything Norton work with it, hehe) and it really doesnt like my modem drivers, its a complete hit and miss afair getting them to work :) So id really like a backup of it as it is now so i dont need to spend over an hour just putting the OS on (quite a long installation eh ) letalone all my apps etc.

Any ideas/alternatives ?

TIA.:D

Two things to know....

1) Ghost 2001 can't save an image to a NTFS drive or partition.

2) If you save your main NTFS partition to a FAT partition, you will only see the FAT drive when in Ghost.

BTW: You were not clear as to what file system your destination drive was. Sounds like you have a dual boot with Whistler...

Hehe, yep, i can see how you might not have known what i meant cause i didnt actually state it properly :p

I am dual booting Win98SE and Whistler, with 98 on the FAT32 c: partition, and whistler on my NTFS d: partition.
I am trying to image the NTFS D: ONTO the FAT32 c: so that i have a backup of the whistler partition to let me mess about more with whislter and not have to spend ages reinstalling if ever need be.

Can you clarify your point 2, im not 100% clear on what you mean. How about making another NTFS partition and saving to that then putting it on the FAT32 one so i can access it from win98/dos, would that work ?(ive tried using a util to get access to the NTFS drive from win98 but it gave me an error saying i should check that 2 of the files from the whistler install folder it needed to work were from the same installation, needless to say they were! ).

Also just like to add, im an NTFS newbie, never used it in my win2000 dabbles :)

Microsoft may have changed the NTFS format again (as they did from NT 4.0 -> Windows 2000) in such a way that Ghost can no longer recognize the partitions. The only solution may be for you to re-install Whistler to a FAT partition (if it allows you to do so) and ghost the drive then.

Hmm, i havent heard anything about them changing the file system again, but like i said i havent used NTFS so i dont really follow it :)
As for installing on FAT, i may do that in future i suppose but for now i want to play with NTFS and when i switch fully to whistler then i aint gonna be using no FAT! :p

Ghost can only be saved to a DOS type of drive/partition, since NTFS is far from DOS, Ghost will not even register the NTFS drive. So, in order to save an Ghost image, the destination must only be FAT or FAT32. In your case your fine...

Me too :) Actually I am a Win2K newbie. I really like they way everything can be configured, and having it setup as an NTFS, really add to it.

BTW: I am really intrigued about Whistler. I am also jealous :D
