I know this is kind of a repost/duplicate from a couple other threads, but I just wanted to stress how strongly I feel about this-
PLEASE, please start handing out vacations and bans for color text, different fonts, images, and other exploits in posts and sigs. I don't think I need to reiterate the reasons why this shouldn't be tolerated.

where do you see different colors, fonts and images(other than emoticons) ?

The more you allow people to this exploit to insert color or images into their sigs, the higher the likelihood of someone using it maliciously.

I wouldn't say to fix it first, I know it's a security hole, but they should start banning people for exploiting that hole, while it's being fixed. I think that would the best course of action.

After reading the threads from last night and seeing the "baby" behavior exhibited by the people who have the ability to change the coding, I've turned sigs off. The largest thread has already been deleted but this one remains:

sigs here have never bothered me. they are the tamest of any board i have frequented. other boards allow *pictures*, flash, large text, etc. in their sigs. we can't really post much of anything "colorful" in our sigs here except little emoticons.

and like you've said and done, if you don't like the sigs here than there is an easy option available to just shut them off. that is really the reason i find complaining about them silly.

JUST SHUT THEM OFF.
 
I'd never want to see images in signatures, that's the one thing I love about AT. Font colour, however, changes nothing except it looks "nice". Colours are hardly subjective and can in no way offend anyone, nor does it take any more time to load.

I'm all for stopping it, as I've already taken the initiative to explain to the moderators how it's done, what risks it presents and how to avoid it. The colour in my signature will remain until I'm asked by a moderator to remove it, which hasn't happened (even after I asked one if I should).

ok, i stand corrected... a bit. i didn't realize you guys found a way to colorize your sigs and embed images.

still i say, someone can just shut off sigs if they don't like it.

also, the powers that be are powerless against those that know how to do this from doing it i take it?

I assume you mean that they're not immune to the vulnerability? That's definitely not the case. ^^; I could provide a real-time example, showing them without a doubt that it's possible, but that's most definitely perma-ban worthy.

i mean c'mon... how long has search not worked? things like that never seem to get resolved.

That's the thing, people ARE putting *pictures* in their sigs. Yes, we could all just turn off sigs, OR the mods could just give all of the offending members. One way inconveniences the people who are breaking the rules, one way inconveniences the people who are not breaking the rules. I have no idea why you would choose the latter. 😕

And at least one person used the flaw to make you logout when you roll over the link. That one is worth a decent vacation. Once they start handing out the vacations the problem will cease to exist, then they'll have all the time they want to fix it.

see my next post above. i corrected myself as i did not realize you could post pictures in sigs until just awhile ago.

 
I don't like the images also because it screws up the REPLY -- QUOTE -- TOP -- BOTTOM bar and puts it to the right side.
