Maybe. Normally you'll notice tearing more often in FPS games. But it doesn't really matter how demanding the game is. If you're like me (I hate tearing and need vsync on all the time), you'll be able to notice it with any FPS game (quake1-2 for example).
And be sure if you have vsync on or off. If you've got a nvidia card, go to it's settings in the control panel and check the "performance & quality settings". Take the check out of "application controlled" and turn it either on or off and see if you notice a difference.
To see a difference in tearing, play a first person game, then make your character spin around in circles
