Image quality

I recently got a new monitor (ctx vl710t), and have noticed that the display is not that sharp. I was wondering if this may be caused by my lame TNT graphics card, since it is old and I am unsure as to whether this card has a reputation for poor 2D image quality or what.

thanks!

Is it a Trinitron monitor? The 2D image quality won't be as sharp using any video card if it is. If it's a shadowmask CRT, then it probably is the TNT. I went from a TNT to a GeForce 2 GTS on a shadowmask monitor (2D was pretty good), then bought a Trinitron monitor and noticed a slight degradation in 2D image quality.

Actually, it probably is the TNT because Trinitron monitors "magnify" the flaws in 2d quality, not that they don't look as sharp (why the heck would people buy them if they aren't as sharp AND the color isn't as good looking?) I say you try it on another system with a different video card and see.

Most people complain about the display getting fuzzy with the nvidia chipsets when they take the resolution above 800x600. And I have read that the trinitron magnifies this issue. So your monitor is probably fine, its the nvidia chipset. Nvidia seems to sacrifice 2d quality for 3d speed, just the nature of the beast. Im not bashing Nvidia, cuz its my chipset of choice so far, but its mostly cuz im a gamer and really don't give a crap whether my print is a little blurry as I write this message to you. :D

Besides I'm blind as a bat, so probably couldn't tell the difference until I get new glasses. (Computer comes first Muhahahahaha)

About the Trinitrons - my opinion actually is that they are much more fuzzy than any other non-trinitron monitor. We have lots of trinitrons at work of the best quality and I have never seen actually a sharp Trinitron. I do not cease asking myself a question - why are they more expensive and why do people buy them? A good shadowmask monitor looks much much sharper than any trinitron (the vid. cards in this case are the same).
IMHO.

Thanks guys, thats what I wanted to hear! (I would much rather have to get a new graphics card than replace a new monitor!)
