I use skydrive. You can post direct links to the pictures on forums and no one will ever know who the picture belongs to. If you post to an album, it is not so anonymous. Never used imgur so I don't know how they compare.

Just make sure to scrub the exif data.

What is wrong with jpg format? I have been using imgur for years and not a single issue.

JPEG is LOSSY compression. PNG can compress some things (like most screenshots) better than JPEG and it would be completely lossless.

Like ZIP compression, PNG is lossless. PNG is optimized for bitmap. Simple shapes and patterns with large areas of solid color (maybe simple gradients too) compress very well. This means PNG is optimal for screenshots and such.

JPG format is to bitmap images as MP3 format is to uncompressed waveform audio. Detail is lost. Compression artifacts are obvious with screenshots and sometimes the file size is larger than PNG anyway.

Additionally, imgur compresses the images anyway when you upload them. Not big deal for lolcats, but anything you don't want degraded is better somewhere else.

Ah, yes. When posting my own JPGs publicly with my Dropbox account, I have to use third-party software to edit GPS tags from the EXIF data. Fortunately, PNG doesn't have embedded EXIF data.

For pics on the forums here, I still have my http://pics.bbzzdd.com/ account.

But of course it blocks viewing from most other sites.

Went from self hosted to few weeks ago.
I mostly do military images, funnys and gifs on forums and tumblr and for that it has been fine.
Are all those pics yours? Definitely some interesting ones in there.

You think Deeev might be a spammer on behalf of ?

Postcount = 4 :hmm:

This was his / her first post on Anandtech forums.
That's what I thought at first, looked at the 3 other posts, which seemed short... Looked at the site and found this profile.

If they are spamming, they are also a user of the site, which at the very least has some awesome pics. :)

OH. I see it now.
Well, maybe... and maybe not (I don't think anyone scouts the internets for topics like these). Either way, I registered there and it seems really good. Some ads, but I can live with that or enable Adblock. The site is fast, and the interface is simple and user friendly. Will keep using it for some time and see.

uhm, it was the first tread i saw and first tread i had something to say = first post.. Found the site by asking the same question as octo on irc when imgur had load issus.
And as far as i know the site is stable and fast, so i have no problem "advertising it."

That looks ok. Is that brand new service? Image1 was posted in october.
Yea must be, pic 1.html is mine and thats on 8.oct. Ya first!

No they are not mine, i try to add source in the decription when i have it as i mainly use it for linking to highres on tumblr.

Time has come to ditch . It was pretty short lived. At first it seemed ok, but there doesn't seem to be any interest in development from the people behind it, and the interface in its current state is almost as useless ad Imgur.
So what I am looking for is service that I can use as very basic storage where images are hidden from public (for example, images I use as icons, random avatars or forum attachments), but which also has some gallery functionality, because from time to time I upload screenshots from games, and stuff like that.
The interface absolutely must be comfortable to use and simple enough at the same time.

Dropbox. Dropbox. Dropbox.

My free account is over 10GB now.

I think I might earn another 250MB if I send an invite and you use it to sign up. It has been a while since I invited anyone to Dropbox.

[edit]
Looks like current users now earn 500MB per registered invite. I wish that was so back when I created accounts for my family members. I could have earned twice as much free storage :(

Really? I can't post a Dropbox invite because it's like a shortened URL? It's not obfuscating anything.

Missing part is db dot tt

Isn't Dropbox simply file sharing service? I said I need some sort of gallery functionality as well.

Oh. Well I use the /Public folder for remote linking images. It probably has some gallery function, but I don't mess around too much with the web interface.

I looked at Flickr and while it looks good at first, it seems like there are some limitations to it. There doesn't seem to be a way to copy image's address, and no way to display an image in the original resolution either. I don't like that.

I'm going to have to try another out, I've never really used them that often and still use, ahem, photobucket.

Both are possible. Just use embedded code and copy paste the direct link hidden in the embedded code, that's what I do here on AT forums.
