Image hosting

Could someone recommend me a good free image hosting service? I've been using Imgur for over a year, but got extremely fed up with its HORRIBLE and illogical interface, plus I realized they automatically convert png files into jpg, which royally pissed me off (even more because they don't tell you at all).

I am looking for an alternative. Any tips?

Got fed up long ago with the freebie hosts, so bought a domain name and webhosting. Combined, costs maybe $40/year. Worth it, esp. considering I have email that isn't scraped/mined like Gmail, etc.

I am basically looking for something like Imgur, but without the annoying stupidies.
So, ideally something where I can register, and maitain my uploads in albums which I can easily and freely manage.
Does not necessarily have to be completely free, but considering I typically only have like 50 pictures semi-permanently saved, I am thinking about some symbolic yearly subscription or something.

lol that's the worst thing on the whole planet 😀

... maybe a slight exaggeration .... but main questions are....

Are you needing an online back up... or an image host ( lots of bandwidth .. or not so much ?)
Also, are you willing to pay for it.. or prefer FREE

Here's the Free Hosting Thread that I created quite a handful of years ago. Disclaimer... I haven't taken the time to update... since 2010.. lol

Interesting thought about Flikr... "When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload up to 1 Terabyte worth of photos." per their limits page

That's a hella lot of storage for free... IMO

I like imgur's interface, though I like hosting my own since I'm in control of it and don't have to worry about losing all my images if it goes down or w/e. Currently my self hosted upload software kinda sucks though, it's really buggy and it wont take images directly from my DSLR, I have to resize them. The thumbnails also got all screwed up the first time I discovered this bug.

Eventually I want to code my own that also allows videos. Youtube is a lost cause now because of the G+ crap so I want to start self hosting videos too.

Ignore the G+. When you login on youtube, you should have an option to use your youtube name.

I wish I could ditch G+, but my original Youtube name is so retarded I decided to go with my real name instead. Of course you cannot change it... Goddamn Google.

Yeah but I just hate the idea that everything I do gets broadcast to random people that Google decided to automatically add as friends. I like to separate my online life from my real life, but with G+ everything is integrated. Ex: if I watch a video or make a video (I assume) it gets broadcasted to all my coworkers and other people that Google automatically added to my G+. Who knows if it's also broadcasting my searches too, but I use duckduckgo for searching now. I still find it creepy that Google even knows who I know IRL. people can also add you and unlike Facebook you don't have to accept. Facebook is stand alone social media though, so I use it for my IRL life more than online, but G+ integrates with too much stuff, that's part of the issue I have with it.

I use skydrive. You can post direct links to the pictures on forums and no one will ever know who the picture belongs to. If you post to an album, it is not so anonymous. Never used imgur so I don't know how they compare.

Flickr! My video clips don't always play, but if you're only going to be using it for photographs, Flickr is great. 🙂

flickr is great, free terabyte of storage, stores original quality file and scales to whatever res you need, easy sharing to facebook or email etc. i love it!

Went from self hosted to <spam> few weeks ago.
I mostly do military images, funnys and gifs on forums and tumblr and for that it has been fine.

Put them somewhere in your Dropbox "Public" folder. When people start to use your images, replace them with offensive images that have identical filenames.
