image gallery software? help?

I'm using the free 1and1 hosting stuff, and wanted to set up a simple image gallery deal that friends and such could add some pictures to. I've got both Gallery and Coppermine set up and going, but am having some problems...my one friend said he couldn't get bmp files to work (I'm not sure which package, and haven't had a chance to try that specifically yet), but I also ran into problems getting a gif file to work with coppermine, too. It said I needed ImageMagick to be installed? Can I even do this? Really, all I want is a basic image hosting gallery thing where people can put up BMP, JPG, or GIF files. I think I like Coppermine better than Gallery just because it seems like you can have custom permissions and disk quotas moreso than on Gallery. Maybe theres something else out there thats even better? What do you think? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Install imagemagick.

can you do that on 1and1? or can i just put the binaries in the folder on the server? i don't think I have access to install software on the server.... thanks for the input.
