Image Flickering in games?!

I've been having this weird problem with my system. When I'm playing a game, whether it be in D3D or OpenGL, I get this weird flicker on the screen. It's not constant and about as quick as a flash on a camera. It will rear it's ugly head at least 5-10 times a minute. It's hard to describe it but this is the best way I know how. The video card is a Creative Geforce2 GTS using the latest official drivers from Nvidia(6.31 I believe.) Neither the video card or my processor is being overclocked.

I've tried a huge number of things(different drivers, setting my refresh rates higher/lower both optimal and adapter default, reformatting, IRQ settings, different Mobo's, BIOS settings, video cards settings in both OpenGL/D3D, extra cooling, using nvidia's/creative's latest driver build and even different monitors.)but it refuses to go away.

Can anyone here help me with the fist biting problem? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

How about asking me what I have running in the backgroud before thinking you know it all? I don't run any apps in the background when playing games, ever. Second, I can't stand ICQ. Nice try Yuckck. I'll shut off my vsync and let you know what happens Budman. Thanks.

I had some problems like that with Fast AGP set in the BIOS. They somehow went away though. Might be vsync like Budman said. I am using a GeForce2 MX card.

Well, I've been playing Hitman for the past hour and there hasn't been one flicker on the screen so far. I disabled the vsync in both openGL and D3D(I set the rendering to no more than 0 frames ahead). It's seems to have aleviated the problem. But, only time, and more gaming, will tell.

i am sorry if i put my suggestion the wrong way. but running icq in the background gives me flickering when i play games. and cos turning vsync on didn't work for me, so that's just another suggestion.

Where is the option to disable V-sync in the D3D apps? I found the one in the Open GL settings screen. Im using Nvidia drivers ver 6.31

Yep, that was definatly the problem. Played a few games; Rogue Spear, Everquest and Hitman in both OpenGL and D3D. If anyone with an Nvidia card is having this "issue"(Microsofts new word for bugs.)Just disable vsync and set the Rendered frames to 0. I tried setting it to 2 or 3 but the flickering would reappear.
