I wanted to change my avatar to the Viper logo. I googled and settled for this one.

As you can see, this image is shaped like the logo instead of a square or a rectangle. I uploaded it as my avatar. However after uploading it appears in a white box.

I want it to appear as it is without any added white space around it, like these default avatars.

dragon.gif
parrot.gif

how can i do this? I opened it in mspaint and saved it as a gif but it still added white space around the image.

Did yo u try and make the white background transparent? You will need a bit more advanced editor than the mspaint.

Just color the grey white in MSpaint with the bucket tool?

Well, I meant the same as the avatar background color, but you get the idea.

Yeah, nice idea. I tried the white grey and now it looks better, but still does not match up with the background

what editor do you suggest?

I am not an expert in image manipulation. I personally use the Snagit editor in the Snagit software suite. I suppose you could replace the gray colour with the exact colour of the background here at AT forum. In that case you will have just the black shape with no borders at all.

My version of paint allows me to edit colors and make a custom one. This is in Win7.

That's what I am doing. Its a tiresome process though.

It is but you need a picker option, point it at the right place and it will show you the RGB combination for you. Then you just create a custom color and input the color code. That should be it.

Okay so i used snipping tool to take a snap of the background on AT, then i used color picker option to get its RGB combo, and then used the fill tool to fill the white space with it.

Yeah i did not know about the color picker option. Thanks for this.
