Image backup HELP.......

I did a search and read a few posts about image backups. I find most seem to adore Acronis and abhor Norton. I trust the brainpower on this site and will look into Acronis. I need your help however, to understand a few things. First, if I create an image backup and somthing goes wrong with my computer, do I boot that image from another partition or from a dvd? Second question, and most important one because this is why I started looking to image backups in the first place. If I create a backup, can I resize the partition on the hard drive and reinstall everything on to the larger partition? When I set up this computer I put storage on a large partition and the OS on a small partition. Too small in fact, and now i need to make it larger. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've only used Ghost, but I would assume the answers are the same (don't take my word for it): 1. You can backup the image to, then load the image from, a CD, DVD, external drive, or separate partition. 2. You can load an image onto a larger partition.

Version 10 of true image home will allow you to do many things. There are a few different ways to restore an image. The first is if you can boot to windows you just run the program and select the restore an image option. It requires a reboot but it's that easy. The second option is to boot to the Acronis boot disc, which allows the same restore options. True image is great because it allows you to back your image up to drive, network locations, CD's or DVD's just keep in mind it is a 1:1 copy so these images get pretty big depending on how large your main OS install is. Hopefully that answers your questions.


As far as resizing a partition you'll need to get a program that will do that, I use Acronis Disc director, but I believe there are a few free options out there. Take a look at the free software thread.
