Well i hope you guys can help me out. I'm trying to connect 2 routers with my single cable modem. I thought I simply connect the cable modem to the wan of router A and then connect a port from A to the Wan of router B. It works!!! about 50% of the time.
Am I missing something here? I am not a networking guru, but I'm hoping there is a nice easy way for this to work.

No reason for u to be using 2 routers. Plug LAN port of A into LAN port of b so u can use the switch feature of router B. No need for it to route or double NAT, especially since u don't know how, or need to do it.

Give the guy a break.

Would you please tell us why you would like to cascade two Routers through the WAN?

I think of several reasons why it would be usefull, but I guess it does help in answering the question. Not sure why it works half the time, but I do know some routers are not capable of NATing from a private IP to a private IP. What two routers are you using?

I wanted to do something similar. I wanted to conect my cable modem to my new wireless router, then connect my old router to the new router and use the old router as a switch. But then (last weekend), I grabbed this free-after-rebate 8-port switch from NewEgg and won't have to bother with it!

u probably have dhcp enabled on both and they are getting confused. Manually assign the ips on b and its clients.

What he's trying to accomplish would go a long ways toward understanding the issues and recommending a course of action. Since on the face of it, the request sounds somewhat silly, I wanted to clarify what was expected of the lashup. I don't think the request was unreasonable...
