I'm trying to put together a rig.

And I want something that would make the guys at the office go "yelp". They do have some kick @ss systems already... and I want to top it. Suggestions?

Get a windowed aluminum case, from Lian-Li, Kingwin, Coolermaster, or Silverstone. You can't really make them "yelp" without a window so they can see the guts, and some UV CCFLs w/ UV reactive cabling and fan grilles.

What might make me go yelp is something like the Codegen SR-101 server case powered by a Fortron 550W PSU. Add two 5-drive, hot-swap SCSI cages filled with 10k U-160 drives along with a brace of Plextor or MSI burners feeding a top end Athlon XP mobo like the DFI Lanparty with a gig or so of dual channel DDR.(or wait 'til the KT880 chipset based XP mobos hit the streets - should be soon). You could also go 64-bit Athlon if you have more money than sense. Add whatever bling you want, the glitz doesn't phase me... Yeah, that's the ticket!

Doesn't the DFI Lanparty only has 533 FSB max?

Get a Zalman 92mm CNPS7000Cu for whatever processor you get OR Watercooling with UV reactive water treatment. WD Raptor 74 for boot. Keep your cables extremely neat and hidden. Corsair TwinX LED equipped RAM. Oh yeah, and a Samsung Syncmaster 243T. That alone would blow them away.
Sapphire Ultimate 9800 Pro (or whatever that comes with the Zalman HS and Fan for VPU). Coolermaster Musketeer for looks on a 5.25" bay...
