I'm 5'10" and weigh 160 lbs, I used to weigh 145 in high school. I figure If i can loose 5lbs of fat I'll be in good shape. Lately I've been drinking about 3 beers a week and eating more, but its not that much. I'm not about to change my diet and I can not run because I hurt my heel from a fall this past summer. My heel is ok but it bothers me if I put too much pressure on it after I've been on my feet all day. so no exercises that puts pressure on my heel. I don't want to go to the gym because it's a PITA.

I'll do one of those exercise video things if you can find it for me on DVD. I haven't seen any at sports authority.

here's the exercise equiptment I own:

frame for doing pull ups
jump rope
2 adjustable dumbells 3-40 lbs

I do:

10 minutes on the jump rope 3 days a week (eventually I hope to get up to 30 minutes)
20 pull ups every day.
maybe I'll try to do curls 4X a week when I don't jump rope.

I'm looking for recommendations as to what else I can do that will help me loose some fat from my waist, ass, and thigh area. I am not going to buy any big exercise machines because I don't have the room to store it.

thanks in advance

Make sure that you exercise on an empty stomach. That way all the energy used is burned from fat since you are exercising when you have food for energy in your stomach.

You burn Glycogen as a source of energy at higher heart rate levels when doing short, intense exercise. You burn Fat as a source of energy at lower heart rate levels. If you want to burn fat quickly, do low impact, easy exercise, like walking. No joke.

hmm... you want to lose fat, but you don't want to change your diet or go to the gym? here, let me send you some anti-fatass pills. they'll burn off the flab in about an hour, and they'll also make you smarter and mow your lawn, too!

join a gym that has a pool. swim a lot. eat less and don't drink beer. sorry pal, but you're only going to lose fat by doing cardiovascular exercises.

My high school swimming teacher told us that swimming doesn't burn fat. His reasoning was something along the lines of "You've never seen a thin whale, have you?" I don't know if that's true, excercise is excercise, sorta.

Go get that "Hollywood Diet" drink. You'll be sh*tting out 5 pounds of something before you know it.

I don't even eat that much, I just don't want to eat diet food. I eat a fair sized lunch and dinner. I don't believe having 3 beers a week is going to make that much of a difference.

I'm already doing the jump rope thing. doesn't that count for something? (just started recently so I don't know the results yet)

I don't want to drive 15 minutes each way to work out for 1/2 an hour, besides I don't like community showers and I don't like swimming.

I just want to do 1/2 hour of indoor exercises on the days I don't jump rope before I shower and gop to sleep. If someone cam point out an aerobics video on DVD i'll buy it and do it.

Reasoning sounds familiar. Did your swimming teacher happen to go by the name of Codewiz?

That's true:

However at the same time, all the swimmers I know have 10% or less body fat, great bodies. Go figure

Whales are fat because they usually swim in very cold water. Also, fat floats better than muscle does, which is why apes can't swim.

Get a road bike, start riding for just a few miles then increase to 20-30 miles a day. Do it daily, you'll loose the weight guaranteed.

look. i've been chubby pretty much all my life, and five months ago i decided i was finally going to get into good shape. since then i started eating healthy (not diet zero taste crap, but food you know is good for you) and less food in general, and i've gone running every day for the past few months and swam every day up until a couple of weeks ago when it got too cold. i've lost about 25 pounds of fat, and after another 10 or so i'll be in the kind of shape i'd be satisfied with. but there's no scientifically proven "trick" to losing fat. you take in a certain number of calories a day, and you use a certain number of calories a day. if calories output > calories input, you lose weight. if calories input > calories ouput, you gain weight. that's basically it. as soon as you accept that, you'll decide what you like less: swimming & dieting or your excess fat.

I only eat 2 meals a day and I eat pretty much normal food, like steak, meatloaf, type foods for dinner and chicken cutlet heros for lunch.

What I want are exercises that will target certain areas of my body. I also want these exercises to be indoors and can be done at home without any large pieces of equiptment.

You say you don't want to change your diet, but seriously you can lose 5lbs very easily just by CUTTING DOWN on high fat/high calorie foods for a few weeks. I did I diet last year and lost weight at a rate of 1-2lbs a week (which is a healthy rate) and I was not stuck on "diet" food. It's all about how many calories you put in, and how many you burn in a day. Simply eat less than you burn. You can continue to have your few beers a week no problem! People hate the phrase "calorie counting" it seems but it really is the most effective way of losing weight.

Ride a bike. Burns a buttload of calories (upwards of 600 per hour at a 16mph pace) and shouldn't bother your foot.

I'm looking for recommendations as to what else I can do that will help me loose some fat from my waist, ass, and thigh area. I am not going to buy any big exercise machines because I don't have the room to store it.
You cannot spot reduce. You'll lose it wherever your personal genetics dictate. Varies by individual.

You burn Glycogen as a source of energy at higher heart rate levels when doing short, intense exercise. You burn Fat as a source of energy at lower heart rate levels. If you want to burn fat quickly, do low impact, easy exercise, like walking. No joke.
There's a catch to this. While you do utilize more fat at lower intensity, you end up burning way few calories per hour overall. Hence, even though the energy source while you're exercising is different, you still have to replace the total number of calories burned, either by eating or your body will go after your fat stores to make up the deficit. This has been discussed and tested ad nauseum amongst the cycling community.

EDIT- one pound of fat = caloric deficit of 3500 kcal. That's pretty much the bottom line. You either have to limit intake of food or exercise enough to create a daily deficit. End of story.
