I'm trying to install WIndows XP onto a new hard drive

I recently purchased a brand ne WD 320 GB hard drive SATA150 and installed it into my computer to become the new primary HDD. My motherboard detects the HD and the size of it perfect, however when I do a fresh install of Windows XP it only sees 137 GB of it. I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra mobo and an AMD 3000+ processor. Is it something common that I'm overlooking to fix this problem, I don't have that much experience recently with newer computer hardware, so I'm stumped. Any insights would greatly be appreciated.

as i understand it Xp unupdates will not recognise a drive larger than 137 or whatever GB...until it is updated/patched and SP2 has that all in it...
 
Install Service Pack 2, if you have a problem with it seeing the full drive after that then ghost your O/S and the copy it back.
 
dug is right. To do it properly, you should slipstream SP2 with Windows XP. That way the system will see your entire drive and 90% of your patches are installed, too.
