I'm too old for this: Staying up past 10pm

I don't feel like dealing with people lateish anymore(for a long time now really). I'll be up past that frequently enough, but it's just screwing around online. I just want to chill and be left alone.
Lets be honest bro...you've never been the most patient person when it comes to dealing with people....even before you got to no lifer status here.😛

You no lifers always make me chuckle. Past my bedtime this, get off my lawn that....really what's next? Honestly sometimes you guys sound like that old cranky neighbor I had growing up as a kid....

My brother and I still laugh about it. We were playing some backyard baseball one day back in the early '90's and we hit one over his fence. He then decided it was a good idea to throw the ball back at us while shouting "KEEP YOUR BALLS OTTA MY GARDEN!" Yeah you cn imagine how much that made us laugh.

There's some truth to that, but night time's always been a real problem for me. I'm just tired, and don't feel like dealing with anything. I like mornings. Get up early, and enjoy the cool and quiet before everyone gets up and ruins everything :^D

I'm like the polar-opposite in terms of time ... speak to me in the morning pre-coffee at your peril!

Of course I can be a bit cranky in the evening as well come to think about it!

I am tired and grouchy between 5am-12pm since that's the perfect time to sleep.
I miss working nights. Every night struggle to fall asleep before im really ready at like 2-3am, every morning struggle like hell to wake up.

I do not understand you morning types at all...

And here I just finally got to the point where I can be in bed before midnight on a weekday... some weekends too, and rarely up past 1AM anymore!

I used to be bad for going to bed past 2am. Though I do tend to like my nights to myself to just chill or w/e so yeah I don't really like to go out late myself. I don't care so much if people come over, just not in the mood to go out anywhere at that time. Problem with going to bed late though is I also sleep in till like noon or later if I do that. Then by the time I get up, shower, have my coffee, eat etc (slow process given I'll still be groggy) then there's hardly no daylight left. By the time my day is really starting it's like past supper time. Do that for several years in a row and it's a recipe for depression which I learned the hard way. Used to work mostly night shifts so I'd just stay in mostly that mode on my days off.

Now days I try to go to bed by midnight on my days off and I try to get up by 10am. On work days I go to bed at like 10pm or so. Even when I work night shift I try to revert faster to day shift mode. Sometimes I will even just stay up after my last night shift, but I usually have a hard time making it past like 5-6pm at that point which means I'm going to bed at a ridiculous time which means I will wake up wide away in middle of the night, but I find it does make for a faster turn around, than trying to sleep only 4 hours which I usually fail at and sleep a full 8.

I recently got diagnosed with sleep apnea which I'm still quite devastated about, going to need a cpap for the rest of my life. But I do wonder if me not being a morning person is something that will change, maybe the sleep apnea is why I feel so groggy and tired in the morning. Either way, once I wake up, I want exactly be comfortable with being hooked up to that equipment so I'll probably just get up anyway. While now when I wake up I tend to feel bliss and just want to stay in bed.

I made it guys! 11:52pm. Time for bed though

You should see my face when somebody proposes dinner at a time later than 7:45.

I very specifically remember a local watering hole we used to frequent that had a weekend happy hour starting at midnight. I used to think "Why would anybody show up before midnight?!" Now I would gladly pay the extra $1-2 per beer to not have to stay up that late

That sounds like an incredibly bad idea!

Wait until everyone is already drunk then offer them cheap beer! What could possibly go wrong! 🤢

We're having a couple of friends over who will probably be over past 10pm. I just finished my cup of coffee so I can stay awake. I'd like to say its just because it was a long week but that isn't the only reason
Afternoon naps are the solution to many of life's problems as you get older!

"Look who's eating at six o'clock. Your suddenly well-to-do president. But, you enjoy your last meal in office. Tomorrow, when they kick you out, you'll have plenty of time to drive around in your Cadillac"

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I tried a CPAP but it didn't really work for me as I am a side sleeper.

Good strong CBD oil before bed did help however. I got the strongest concentration they made at Charlotte's Web.

No more waking up feeling like I couldn't breathe. My gf at the time who was living with me said when I took the CBD oil at night I sounded like a normal person snoring vs a person struggling to breathe in their sleep.

Try some

Depends on the friends, some are more tiring than others.

Depends on advance warning, if you wake up early then it's sprung on you, late night is a long day, especially if you have to get up early the next day and drinking is going to be involved.

Depends on your (their) age, past a certain age is old enough to know when you shouldn't impose on a host past a certain time of night, though the timing of this topic means it will be a weekend which changes things some if you don't have to work 1st shift the next day.

If you need coffee to stay awake at 5PM already, either it's your daily schedule, or some other stress even if it's already too much coffee in your diet. The caffeine yo-yo takes more of a toll the older you get.

Depends, it could make sense to do a midnight happy hour if most customers were tapering off and leaving by then so it's to keep business up. If someone is intent on getting drunk, they'll keep buying without a happy hour.

And if I need coffee simply to keep my heart beating what then? 😛
