Yeah, we figured it out one time here in OT, the cost per gallong of gas is much cheaper than just about every other fluid we use.

Of course, with drinks you always have a cheaper option. Buy cases from the grocery store, get a Brita filter and bottle your own water.
With gasoline you are SOL. You could go deisel, but that requires a whole new engine and maybe even a new car.

Or don't drive. Public transit, cab, carpool, bike, skateboard, louge, jog, run, walk, hop, skip, jump rope, walk on your hands, roll downhill in a tire....you get the picture.

You know, it's funny - here in the US, gas prices are much cheaper than gas prices in Europe or, say, China, and yet we complain so much about our "high gas prices". And usually, the people complaining about high gas prices have terrible MPG cars.

QFT. Also, gas has the slowest price increase rate of any American product. If you compare gas vs income now to 20 years ago it's so much cheaper for us. There's nothing to complain about. Sorry your car sucks, it couldn't be 89 cents forever.

11 of those arent practical for most people. Some cities have crummy or no public transit, cabs are too expensive to get everyday, twice a day.
I am all about carpooling, but there wouldnt be enough people going in for that. Some folks just value their personal liberty too much, which could be one of the reasons we are having gas troubles anyway.
I like it when cities make carpool lanes and bus lanes, we need more of that in America.

You know george dubya sets the prices before he goes to bed he has a number pad next to his bed you guys didnt know that

There are plenty of people who have to spend a lot of money on fuel for their car because of work, like me, and it sucks.
Though it's part of my job and I can't do a whole lot about it, no real point in bitching, but no matter which way you cut it paying more for something isn't fun.
Sure you'll say "well thoes people should get different jobs!", ok champ, take something you absolutely need to do your job and increase it's price 300% and see how much you like it. I'm sure you'll run right out and get a new job, because it's that easy!

gas prices are higher in other countries because they are taxed more. the UK for example, 40% of the gas bill is tax. The oil companies and gov'ts really have people over a barrel.

Wow some people in this world I just look at and think, how could you be your age and be so stupid? This is the OP.

OP, I work 40 minutes from home. There is no public transportation that comes out to where I work. Explain to me how I can avoid driving to work.

Anything closer to home is all residential. Explain to me how I can get a job closer that is still in my field and doesn't pay half of what I make at my desk job.

I DON'T spend crazy amounts of money on stupid sh!t like coffee and Coke, and with all the money I owe I'll barely have enough for everything this summer. But because I continually pay for gas that means I can afford it no problem?

You have no argument whatsoever and sound like a child, I think most people here will recognize that.

My point exactly. I understand thinking it and I understand it is the case. My point is there are things you can do about it. If you choose not to do any of those things who's fault is it? For instance, the guy at work complaining drives 112 miles to work per day round trip and he gets 16mpg on his SUV. Let's do the math.....

112/16 = 7gallons
7 * 2.94 (the price on the way in today) = 20.58 a day in gas
There are roughly 261 non weekend days per year.
I'll be generous and give 6 weeks of vacation. So -30 days.
231 days * 20.58 = 4753.98 per year in gas just going to work!!!!!
For that money he could sell his car, buy a hybrid and pay off the car in 18mo, not to mention the insurance he would save!!!! This is what I don't get about people. I do not see how he justifies keeping the SUV. If he has a REAL need for it either quit b!tchin or buy a different car.

Where the crap do you live that taking a cab anywhere would be cheaper than paying for gas?

Well for one quit F'n complaining to people you know because they DON'T CARE! If it's that big of a deal move closer to where you work. Obviously you won't move so then it can't be that big of a problem. My point isn't gas isn't expensive my point is stfu or fix it. I don't sound like a child, a child wouldn't get complained to about gas prices. I'm not trying to prove gas is cheap or it doesn't cost you alot. I'm trying to say what everyone's thinking. Either fix your situation or stop complaining because I don't want to hear it.

Ha. I'll be happy when it's less than $1.80 per LITRE over here

(OT: I just used Google to convert my GBP to USD, do they keep that conversion tool up-to-date with current exchange rates?)

HAHAHA. Because I won't move it means it MUST not be that big of a problem.

Listen, buddy. If paying $3/gallon is straining me, do you think I can afford to sell my house and move closer to work where the houses cost twice as much? If anything this proves it IS a problem.

Again your argument makes no fvcking sense!

Have you ever tried carpooling? Looking for a different job? Moving isn't the only solution. How about figuring out your yearly gas expendature and look at getting a used hybrid? How about getting rid of some of that debt you have? Or how about just not complaining to other people. Maybe you really don't care enough to fix the problem that's fine with me as long as you don't complain. Notice I posted 2 choices:
A) Fix the problem
B) Don't complain
Feel free to take either as an option here.

Fix the problem, can't. Already outlined why and you're ignoring what I'm saying. Can't get an equally good job that's closer. Can't move. Carpooling is an option but I work at a small company and most other employees live in another direction than I do. My gas usage is nowhere near enough to justify the cost of a hybrid car. Can't get rid of the debt because I'm still in school!

Don't complain, nah, I'd rather complain. I'd rather bitch and moan along with everyone else until the situation improves. Are you saying it's better to walk around like a drone and be happy with everything? I disagree.
