Question I'm throwing in the towel

Dear Friends, I refuse to pay $2K or more for a single graphics card, especially since the original MSRP for Nvidia's RTX 3080 was $700, but I've seen prices for it as high as $2,700K. That's ridiculous.. I'll take up some other hobby/ies in the meantime. I wish you, who are still on this ever-inclining treadmill, that you'll find what you want. Good luck.

I would pay $700 for a 3080 but that’s a stretch as it ends up around 1k Canadian. Beyond that, I’m not interested and I’m also not interested in the lower cards until the price reflects some value.

I have seen some Radeon Fury cards going for decent prices on ebay, so depending on what you have now, that could be a good buy. It isn't a 3080, but they are generally faster than Polaris cards.

Not so fast, my friend. I believe that they said that many Chinese companies are selling them to other miners. They're still going to be overpriced and overused. I don't believe that the price for new cards will come down yet. Have you heard something different?

I'm not in the market to buy a GPU, but I've noticed that prices have definitely come down from their all-time highs. A person can even buy some video cards sold by Newegg without having to do that whole raffle/bundle nonsense.

Now they are still too expensive for me based on their original MSRP pricing, but the pricing isn't as bad as it was 6 months ago.

Yeah, retail availability is up but those prices are still beyond ridiculous.

Prices are going to have to massively tumble before I will even consider buying a new video card. Screw Nvidia, screw AMD, and all the retailers who haven't done squat about the scalpers and price gouging. I guess I'll keep using my 1070 until it dies. Maybe Intel's DG2 will be worth buying - we'll see.

At least AMD 5000 series CPUs are finally getting back in stock at reasonable prices.

FYI, in case you missed it, AMD finally has stock in their online store at MSRP for the 5600x, 5800x, 5900x, and 5950x CPUs.

Im actually waiting on seeing how low these Chinese 3060rtx will be sold second hand.

I recouped enough probably from selling my 1060 6GB which i got more for used then i paid new.. which is hella hilarious.
But i am hoping its enough to flip for a 3060 or even a used 3070.

Nvidia said they sold a record number of cards, but I saw a video saying production was something like 1/4 of normal levels. Makes sense. Doesn't seem like they are making any cards to be honest.

I saw an argument the other day that this is actually a good thing (temporary GPU scarcity).

It makes us appreciate the games we already have, in our backlogs, so much more (I can personally attest to this).
It draws attention to indie games that generally have lower system requirements than the AAA stuff.
It forces us to look beyond our one primary hobby and seek out alternate methods of entertaining or even growing ourselves.
Many people here have gotten a crash course in economics, bleeding edge block chain technology, and supply chains over the last 9 months.
It brings us closer together as a community by "otherizing" scalpers and big mining ops (this might not be the healthiest, but hey)

Do we really want legally-enforced societal "purity tests", for what jobs/occupations/hobbies are "allowed"? Do you really think PC Gaming (a HUGE waste of time, when considering the GDP potential wasted by millions of players) would make the cut?
