I'm thinking the 2017 iPhones are going to be...

Sealed, wireless charging, no headphone jack, no lightning connector, maybe a service port that's covered like the Apple Watch, internal SIM card, and or the Smart Connector pins...

Makes a lot of sense for them, less to break during the warranty period, thinner, as seems to be all manufacturers mantra.

If they do away with bezels and the home button, it'd be pretty cool looking...

I think the lack of headphone jack is going to blow up the Internet.

I think that's too much change in one generation. They're going with AMOLED and they're gonna spend a good portion of their presentation talking about just that.

I do think one day that will be how the iPhone is, I just don't think it will be next year.

The desire to kill the headphone jack I hope just gets knocked on its ass. Way to convenient still to just plug in a pair of decent wired headphones, than all the clunky alternatives.

Also thinness at the expense of battery life, proper heft of the device when held, function etc. I hope dies as well.

You got it all right but the no lightning connector. Without that you can't hook up to fancy accessories or expensive non-bluetooth Beats headphones and Apple won't tolerate that.

The camera will also be significantly different I bet.

Yeah, but that isn't happening this year. That will come next year for the 10th anniversary version. The 2017 version will get an OLED screen too.

The great thing about Tim Cook's Apple is we really don't have to speculate much about this stuff. Leaks are everywhere, the control freak is dead.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the lightning connector become the headphone jack for apple. It already can carry audio can't it?

I'm hoping they announce waterproof phones. I know the 6s has a coating or something. but IP67 would be great.

The supply chain is so massive it's hard to control them.

I think the smart connector could just replace traditional ports, or something similar.

Oh yeah, I 100% expect Apple to axe the headphone jack on the 2016 iPhone and going forward. And I don't expect they will put an adaptor in the box.

And they will do some crap like replace where that port was with a speaker grill, but still have mono sound. You just watch.

I agree in theory, but the Smart Connector not being on the 10 inch iPad Pro makes me doubt how quickly Apple will move in that direction.

Without them wanting to commit suicide yeah. Its always been like that.

Both iPads Pro DO have a Smart Connector. There are differences between the 10 and 12, but the Smart Connector is not one of them.

Oh my bad, I must have misread that. Thank you for the correction.

Maybe we will see a "iPhone Pro" (formerly iPhone Plus) with a smart connector.

There are quite a few rumors in that realm. No never mind to me though, the 6s I have is already inconveniently large, but the SE doesn't have TouchID 2 or 3D Touch (I'm enjoying the new uses of 3D Touch in iOS X)

I'm inclined to believe the WSJ leak that emerged today: the big deals for the 2017 iPhone will be OLED (presumably AMOLED) and scrapping the home button.

I still see Apple sticking to Lightning (because wireless charging isn't guaranteed) and standard removable SIMs (because carriers don't like embedded SIMs). Other things? A11 chip of course, a higher resolution display if that doesn't show up this year and camera tweaks.

You really think a higher resolution screen is on the table? I feel like without VR that Apple won't care to push in that direction.

I honestly don't know. I hope so, but leaks haven't pointed in one clear direction or another. The WSJ leak mentioned the same size, for example, but no mentions of resolution. If Apple does bump things up, I'm not expecting anything radical (1080p on the base iPhone 7, maybe).

I just don't see it. Apple invented the term retina and clearly defined it but hasn't ever tried to get into some additional "super retina" category. Plus a higher resolution would cut into battery life when Apple has also been cutting battery sizes. I honestly expect the OLED 2017 iPhone Anniversary Addition to still have a 720p-ish screen.

Yah, I don't need more resolution on my 6s+ outside of VR use. Even then its fine. OLED is something I'd love though. Especially if they do a 90hz one. Same resolution, but buttery smooth and real blacks? Yes please.

apple releases a proprietary wireless standard and forces everyone to buy expensive new accessories that they get a cut of

sounds very apple-esque

It'd be encouraging Bluetooth... that's as non-proprietary as you get. Lightning (the wired link) is where Apple might get a cut, but that'd be a moot point if there's a headphone adapter in the box.

but bluetooth isn't good enough and it can be a pain to get working properly

apple will want their own standard to make using headphones as seamless as possible

and to get their fair share of any accessory sales

watch them ditch bluetooth as soon as they can

Bluetooth not good enough? It's obvious you don't own an iPhone.

That's the joke.

Of course it's 'good enough' from a user standpoint, but from Apple's standpoint it's horrible as they don't get a cut of all accessories.

So they'll put their own spin on bluetooth and tout it as more seamless, more power efficient, better quality, whatever, but the real reason is so everyone has to pay the apple tax.
