I'm thinking about selling HL2/CS:S

I can't play CS:S without it hard locking with the sound repeating. First time I can sometimes get back to windows but not the second time. If I play for 2 hours it locks at least once or twice.

I don't know what the problem is. I have all the latest drivers and my system is stable under prime and memtest. Only thing o/ced in my CPU which is only 3000+@2.2. It did it before I o/ced. Maybe this game is just picky?

Odd... If you sell you'll have to give your account info as well. You can't register the game to more than one account with the same CD key AFAIK.

Have you tried a complete re-install of it?, could be a bad dl from steam.

I refuse to believe a system is stable if it "hard locks" in anything. Unless you are running Windows ME/98, hard locks are caused by only a few things, overheating, failing hardware, etc.

My system has a 16 week uptime, running all sorts of games from CS:S to BF2 to WoW/etc. THAT is stable.

Sometimes when games crash/lockup I can't get to the task manager to kill them because of resolution changes. I've shutdown the machine before even though it wasn't actually hard locked. I think CS:S/HL2 is one of the games that doesn't die gracefully, but I can usually get out with alt-f4. Perhaps that is what sniper means.

HL2 is pretty buggy though.

Is HL2 really that buggy? I've never had it crash on me before. I'm more of a single player guy though. I've played CS and HL Multi a few times.

I'm thinking of selling my Steam account, too... anyone know if you're allowed to do this?

I realize you have to sell the account and all but I only have HL2 on it so no biggie. I'll try reinstalling it but don't think it will help.

Everytime I start CS:S it freezes while repeating the sound within a few minutes. Of course, I'm used to it so I wait and in about 1-2 minutes it returns to normal and I dont have any problems for the rest of the session.

How long did you wait before you restarted?

def not 1-2 mins. I give it 15-20 secs tops. Maybe I'll wait it out once to see what it does.

I have the exact same specs and I don't have any problems with hard locking. I did notice that the chipset (northbridge?) get's pretty hot sometimes. Is there a way to get an aftermarket cooler for this, just like getting an aftermarket cpu hs/f?

I used to hard lock all the time with the config that you see in my sig. Same lock, sound repeating, and I've tried waiting for it to go back to normal. It never happens.

All I did was uninstall and reinstall Steam and CS:S. Now everything's fine, but I occasionally (rarely) get "The memory could not be "read"" errors.

As far as overheating was concerned, I'm watercooled and I make a log of my temps using nTune and at the time of lockup nothing was overheating at all.

exact same problem here even with the memory error. I will try to d/l CS:S through Steam and see if that helps me. Thx

well, it's probably shorter than a couple minutes, I dont really notice. But definitely longer than 20 seconds.

I'll time it when I get home.
