well what else do you call an air filter that hasn't been changed in 20,000 miles of dusty driving!

You've got me there. :p

I like reading negative reviews
So many are bought and paid for newspaper reviews who never have a bad word to say about anything.
I also read all the negative reviews on MSN auto's too.
It doesn't dissuade me from a car I'm interested in but I do take note of it when I test drive
IE the seat back adjustment in my Versa is on the console side of the seat instead of the door. Drives some peopleand reviewers nuts, not me but I did take note of that when I did my test drive.

Anyone have any problems with a cobalt? are they junk? are they decent chevy vehicles?
Chevy Cobalt crash test results

I would find a better model.

I was looking considering the Cobalt as a car for my wife. After reading the crash test reports, we ended up buying a Buick LeSabre.
A little extra gas mileage isn't worth the greater chance of serious injury.

From your link it actually says it, Cobalt, is good if it has the side airbags. The Toyota Corrola gets the same low ratings when it does not have side airbags as well. Yet that does not stop many here from saying to get it. The Honda Civic does well but it says they all get side airbags.

crash ratings has not been something im really worried about up to this point, I was just going for what I liked more. I realize that it is rather important though. Ill keep looking into it.

Crash tests are only important if you plan on being in an accident some day.

Kiss your money good bye, that car depreciates like a rock. Get something that retains more value - Civic Si, RSX, Focus SVT etc.

My brother drives a cobalt, it's no lexus or anything but its reliable and gets good mileage. That price seems a bit steep to me though for a used one.

Lol, Civic Si or RSX. The Cobalt may depreciate like a rock, but at least it'll still be in the parking lot when you come back to it :p And, as an added bonus - you won't get revved on by every wannabe ricer in his mom's hand-me-down 93 Civic at stop lights. x100 in California.

I agree though that there are better cars for the money out there. I had an '05 Cobalt as a rental...it was "ok" but not great. The fit and finish sucked.

Seems like im gettin a very mixed opinion. One person says they love it and its reliable and good on gas, the next person says the crash ratings suck, and it falls apart and loses monetary value.

interesting.

Used, they are a good buy and reliable
Driving it, not just A to B ing it , lags the competition
Styling is subjective, so always take those with a grain of salt

Yea they don;t hold their value but that is a good thing, you are buying a used one. That is why I said 10k for the one you talked about is to much uinless it was a top of the line SS with all the trimmings.

Crash test ratings are on average with most other cars in its size. So if that scares you then don;t look at small cars.

It does well on gas and is reliable if the owner takes care of it.
