I'm thinking about finding a part-time job on the weekends

I think I might want to look for a part time weekend job. Something in retail that would allow me to work Saturday and Sunday mornings-afternoon. Im very firm on the hours though, because I want my weekend nights free.

I have a full time job, but I'd like a little more supplemental income to knock out student loans faster. I've worked retail before, and I actually miss it very much. I was thinking about working somewhere like Home Depot. I wouldnt mind doing cashier or floor work.

I don't want anything at a supervisor or management level. I want something with very little responsibility that pays a decent hourly wage. Something on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm would be perfect.

My only thing is that I don't want to work somewhere where I might run into people I know that I havent seen in a while. I dunno, I guess Im weird about that, people running into me thinking that I havent done anything with my life.

What do you guys think? Anybody with a career that went out and got an additional part time job?
 
Try a supermarket... they're pretty much ALWAYS hiring. Usually the pay is good, with hourly bonuses for working on Sunday. Job responsibilities aren't a lot or difficult if you pick a good department.
 
Trader Joe's. Excellent company to work for and I generally liked most of the people at the stores I worked at. Only bad thing is nowadays they only give the Hawaiian shirts to full timers.
 
Man, what's wrong with running into people you know? You said you have a full time job. If they can't understand you're doing something constructive (earning extra cash to pay off your loans) then the H E double hockey sticks to them! A supermarket would be great. They are usually very flexible with hours when you can find a job in them. I would say Best Buy as well, because that's when they usually want folks to work on the weekends.

both CompUSA and BB pressure you pretty bad to (at the very least) 'sell' credit cards.

Yea, thats right. I forgot that comp usa and best buy also aggressivley push their warranties.

 
If home depot is an option you should possibly consider a hardware store. Generally they are pretty flexible about their hours but obviously you will have to have some hardware knowledge and stuff. We have a lot of retired or 2nd income people that work at our stores and they generally get the hours they want without too much trouble.

You haven't been walked on till you've worked retail... I'd go with a part time night job, but maybe that's just me.

donate plasma/blood. it's about $25/hr plus snacks. (m,ore if your O+)

else pick a mall. you get a mall discount in additrion to the store your working at

You can make ~$250/mo donating plasma (according to the radio ad around here). The drawback is that you wind up with needle tracks (or at least one large needle track) on your arms
 
I worked at Lowe's for a few months and hated it. Some classmates said the same about Home Depot. (We were school for cabinetmaking, and they seemed to have more flexible hours than most shops). If you're looking at working the morning shift on the weekends, you'll most likely have to be there around 5am.
 
you *miss* retail?!?!?! what the hell is wrong with you!?!?

Actually, I have to so I don't mind helping people out. It's the whole push to sell sell sell sell aspect. Which is obviously understandable... but I grew tired of it. I could use some extra money to pay down some bills though...
 
You know I thought about it and if I didn't have to deal with the INS(Immigration) I really would consider it. You would be able to meet other people that you can share all kinds of stories with at work. Change the routine, more income.... I don't think there is a draw back except the time spent which is money !
