I'm thinking about buying an e46 BMW... What do I need to know?

Black looks horrible unless it is freshly washed. It will show dirt more than any other color and scratches and swirl marks will stick out like a sore thumb.

Silver is the complete opposite but looks fairly boring and grandpa.

For whatever reason, BMW E39's from these years must have the shittiest engine cooling system ever invented. I know four different people who have had issues. Might be the case with the E46 as well.

^^ This. Black is always one sexy color, but for all practical purposes, it sucks. The car gets hot as hell (keep in mind I live in Florida), it looks like crap if it isn't freshly washed, and swirls are a plague. I have extremely good vision, so it would really REALLY bother me. That being said, I do admire other people's immaculately clean black cars.

I'm a bit grandpa, I guess. I do want a silver car, if possible. If the price is right, I could go for anything, though.
