Some younger kids ride those pocket rockets around my neighborhood. I'm always scared that I'm not going to see them coming around a corner and run them over. They seem pretty fast, though.

Personally, I would opt for a higher-power scooter--meaning 150cc or more. This way, you can drive on a highway if you need to, or even keep up with the rush hour traffic in downtown Champaign (not sure if thats where you are going to school or not).

I've been thinking about getting something like a 150cc engine scooter for getting around town, to jobs and just going out in general, and around campus as well. They would still get stellar gas mileage--about 60mpg or better.

I got a 50cc moped so that I don't have to get a motorcycle permit. I'll have my truck for dirving around downtown Champaign. The scooter is just going to be for around campus and quick runs to the corner store.

No reg/no insurance required. Gonna get one as soon as I move closer to school (at least on the other side of the island).

I couldn't imagine going 50/60mph on those little wheels. I'd like to get mine "fixed" so that I could go that fast if I REALLY had to.

All the ones in Asia go that fast Hell my cousin weaves through highway traffic on one of those buggers. (I'm guessing his engine >50cc, but still).

One thing to note:
Electric scooters are basically treated like bicycles. You need to wear a helmet and be over 16. And that's pretty much it (even for thumb sucking California)
