I'm teaching teh intarweb to seniors!

Make sure they know the difference between a monitor and a computer. Don't ask, you'd be surprised. Point out and clearly define all basic peripherals. Teach them the difference between right clicking and left clicking. Teach the difference between single and double clicking so they're not single clicking on icons wondering why their computer is broken and double clicking on links looking like farkin idiots. Teach them the difference between the computer and the desktop. Teach them that a computer only does what you tell it to do so take some damn responsibility for ****** something up or learn some patience if it doesn't automagically do what they want it to do without human interaction. Teach them that the basic concept of windows is to be able to have multiple windows open at the same time. I can't stand people who minimize a program so they can click on the start button. Blah blah blah. Oh, and prepare to be COMPLETELY PATIENT with people you have to teach simple concepts to day after day after day because they can't remember the previous day's lesson.

My brother opens new instances of Firefox every time he wants to go to another site...Tabs, for the win?

Not a problem... I've shot about 20+ commercial spots with local seniors (not actors), who needed to do lines and I'm sure I can handle this. The organization I work for serves the senior population specifically, so its not new to me. I'm just really excited to teach these courses!!

I shoud note, some courses are specific to doing excel spredsheets, and similar advanced programs - the beginner class will be the real tough one.

Sigh. :frown: People who are dumb but can learn are awesome. It's the people who can't learn that drive me up the wall. I'm sure I have my fair share of "senior moments" like getting help from CorporateRecreation with learning Linux (Gentoo install), but still...

Well advanced compared to "this is a keyboard....it is kind of like a typewriter with more functions". I am simply pointing to the fact that not every class will be people who have never looked at a computer - just the one beginner class.

Screw that, teach them Mac OS X! You still can't go to CompUSA or Best Buy and pick up a computer that runs Linux... yet. Why teach them an OS that they'll need to install on their own if they decide to buy their own computer?
