I'm taking a full grade away from Man of Steel

I am quite certain they are happy to have traded the grade for your money, not once, but twice. 😉

Sadly, this is why we keep getting shitty comic book movies. People gladly pay for the privilege of seeing how badly they butcher the source material.

The gist I got from the reviews I watched was this isn't a Superman movie. It's a Michael Bay film with a guy dressed as Superman.

yeah that sounds about right

oh gosh, if they would have gotten shia labeouf as superman?

that would have the best thing ever

I won't watch this movie. The reviews made it seem like a thirty hour "superhero origin" grind movie piece of shit, like so many of them today. So many of these superhero movies are connected in nothing but brand; they don't share any story continuity or actors. Nothing more than whoring their brand out.

It's actually not as bad as the Internet nerds want you to believe. I'm the biggest Superman fan there is and the only problem I had with it is the movie needed about 20 minutes edited out because some sequences dragged on too long.

I liked the parts of the movie that showed his childhood and rogue years, but admittedly, even they were weak compared to similar elements in Batman Begins. I didnt like the editing of those bits.

When things really went downhill, was when Zod showed up. The action sequences and plot from then on really made it into a Michael Bay movie. It was like, they made the fights as destructive as possible, just for the sake of special effects. Tar gets torn up, buildings get destroyed, and it all gets so much that I stopped caring about the innocent civilians, unlike in The Avengers, where there is a more real sense of This Is Bad (ie, what is happening to the city). The World Engine never seemed that dramatic or ominous.

So the second part of the movie tripped down a 2 story flight of stairs and fell flat on its face in front of an entire crowd.

I dont think Henry Cavill was quite as good as Christopher Reeves, but he was decent.

lol during the fight with Zod and all those buildings getting destroyed all i could think about was "WTF why is superman punching him through yet another building FULL of innocent people!? how many thousands are dead now because of that?"

I don't think the movie said SHIT about the people.

Heh, I actually find Batman to be the most boring "superhero" around, mostly because he isnt even one
That he even wins any fight at all is pure plot device due to him being popular...
Lets face it, in the "real world" (Yeah I know) Batman would get raped by any other character in DC universe

But yeah, I enjoy Marvel movies a lot more in general... Avengers is still THE superhero movie, and I cant wait to see how they will handle the sequel

Who wins in a fight? Batman with 1 week to prepare or iron man with no notice?

I was waiting for a scene at the end where they pan out over Metropolis and show like 3 skyscrapers left standing amidst a barren, rubble-filled wasteland.

Same with the 4th. Richard Donner was fired and replaced with Richard Lester towards the end of Superman 2.

Yeah, Lester was the one responsible for adding all the comedy to the movie. He thought it was too serious so he put in some slapstick, which IMO was distracting and unnecessary.

Superman Returns: "Oh, I'm so depressed and dejected. Look how moody and brooding I am. I'll mope around the whole movie because chicks dig that."

I think we watched different movies. If there was 5 minutes of moodiness I'd be surprised. After he finds out about Lois's kid and husband, he goes to a bar and hints what's on his mind for about a minute, then flies off to save the day. Later, he eavesdrops on Lois and her husband's conversation about him in their home then he's a bit moody for about 20 seconds while flying away and then flies off to save the day. It wasn't the main plot of the movie, but it was concluded in a reasonable way without dominating the movie - Superman flies off to see his home for a few years, comes home and finds his squeeze with another man and she's had a kid, he's not particularly happy about that. He tries a bit to win her over but gives it up as a lost cause (seemingly). As a result the main characters had decent amounts of screen time to show some depth of character, and IMO it succeeded in that respect as well as having some fairly kick-ass action.

Also, I don't know about you, but I restricted my exposure to a single Twilight movie (the first), and even after you "explained" that reference, I still don't see any connection between the two films.

I think if that's the sole criticism of the movie and you can't remember anything more than I can regarding "moody content", I'm wondering what you look for in a movie... "ug, ug, need more action".
