I read a case once where a guy was addicted to cough drops, we're talking about multiple bags a day. He went crazy and tried to kill some people. His defense was that the cough drops made him do it, I think it worked too.

edit: It worked in that it got him a successful insanity plea, but then he would be committed to a mental institution.
