Ok, so I finally get my dad agree to let me borrow 1800 dollars for Christmas, and I get everything ordered (case, cooling, cpu, etc. etc.). Well, I was looking over my orders and I realized I ordered the 3500+ with the .13 micron process, instead of the 90nm.

?GOD D**NIT? I chanted!

Anyway, yea, I'm an idiot....I bet there is a huge performance difference, isn't there? GAH, I'm an idiot. My order is in Step 3 at Newegg, hopefully if I can catch them before they ship it off (hasn't been packaged yet) they can switch out the CPUs.

*bangs head on the desk*

No, you're not an idiot at all.

The performance between the two are EXACTLY the same.

The only difference between the two is that one runs at 1.5 volts and one at 1.4 volts.

The 3500+ 90nm may overclock a little better than the 130nm 3500+ but there is no difference.

Especialy if you're subzero (phase-change) cooling your processor (which i doubt) the 130nm is the better because the new 90nm don't like subzero temperature.

So you're not an idiot.

lol you can probably still hit them before they ship. Usually they'll let your change your order.

Hmm...maybe. So if I have to RMA it back (if its too late) then I won't, but if I can change maybe I should....hmm. I don't think I plan on overclocking...are you positive about this though?

Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea, since the other is 100 dollars more...hmm.

Dual 6600GT's (Out of stock for weeks of the 6800GT's, and I'm impatient...VERY impatient), the Asus SLI-Deluxe board (found one finally!), Thermaltake Shark case (black, with bag), Black Koolance Exos Water Cooling kit, Enermax 600W Noisetaker PSU, and the CPU.

I e-mailed newegg to disregard the e-mail for changing the order :p, I'll put up with .13 micron.

You should have gotten a 6800GT and then one later when the price drops. The .13nm 3500+ is fine, even if you are going to OC, because A64 OC'ing is a lot more luck. You just don?t need as much on the Winchesters.

Considering the recent rash of reported issues with Prime95 instabilities at stock speeds on Winchesters, you might well be better off getting a 130nm CPU. Looks like there might be some small production issues still for the 90nm chips.

You're right, but I mean, by the time I have the money to buy one (around Feb, March or April, depending on how work goes) I'm sure the price would have dropped a bit, and I could sell my dual cards to help pay for at least half of one (or more). You forget, I is impatient, and from benchmarks I see that two 6600GTs are more effective than one Ultra; besides, I won't be doing that much hardcore gaming right now, no time.

If you're not going to game, I don't see the point in getting two 6600GT graphics cards at this point. I don't understand what you're gratifying there. If you want to throw money away, I'll gladly take it.

:D

I said I wasn't going to do any "hardcore gaming" at this point in time (no time), I will game every now and then, and when I do I expect the best performance out of my comp :p.
