I'm such a beer snob

Like every normal person in America I grew up drinking crappy beer and happily living in ignorance. A few years a good buddy introduced me to craft beer. Ever since then it's been hard to drink "normal" beer and especially crap like Highlife. Since I travel a lot for work(80%) I try to go to as many good local breweries as I can.

However, it's ruined my palalet. Every time I go out to drink with friends they always go to bars with the worst beer selection. It's seriously a struggle to drink crappy beer now. I'd rather drink a diet coke than a bud light. Sometimes I'll only go out if they go to places with a decent selection.

I'm such a beer snob :( Convince me that I'm wrong and should like crappy beer ATOT.

If those bars don't have at least a couple reasonable selections then they must be pretty terrible bars. Life is too short for gross beer, find a nicer bar and bring your friends there. Unless your friends don't listen to you, then you have the miller lite of friends.

I'm worse than you and dont like to drink soft drinks like coke, soda etc...

Most bars have sam adams or some type of microbrew, craft beer. I really cant think of a place Ive been to that only served piss like bud, coors etc... Even some real backwoods places in new hampshire, vermont and maine I've been to in the forest country that we stopped at while snowmobiling or hiking had at least one thing I would drink.

Most "popular" craft beers still taste like piss to me. I'd rather save on the calories than drink a Sam Adams "craft" beer.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here. I'm not exactly a beer snob but I feel like most Sam Adams tastes the same...an okay lager with a weird aftertaste(to me). Blue moon started to go south once they got bought, tastes nowhere near as fresh whenever I get it. Even Troegs is starting to taste worse.

Just don't be one of those people that refuses to admit to liking ANY beer. I hate beer people that only say they like beers brewed in someone's basement that no ones ever heard of.

Lots of people hate bud, highlife etc. But when I order a 'popular' ipa like dogfish 60 and someone says ew how do u drink that crap i just want to punch them in the face.

My palalet is so refined I can't drink beer.

Actually I love all beer. Every beer I ever put to my lips tasted like angel tears mixed with honey that just dripped off a goddess' nipples. I liked it so much I had to quit drinking it. :(

Oh nothing like a great tasting craft beer. Here in Ontario we got a ton of amazing Craft beer. When I was younger and poor I only purchased domestic, cheap crap beer, anything to get a buzz. Now that I have a few extra dollars in my pocket I only purchase good craft, or import beer.

I think the goal is to learn what you like, try as many different brews as you can and establish what styles of beer you enjoy most....

Homebrewers often try to make American pilsners to serve non-appreciative friends of craft brew. What I found is the American pilsners are pretty tough to clone....there's a lot more that goes into those beers than you'd ever imagine for them to taste like water with little room for error. Because of that, I raise my glass and enjoy them for what they are.

When you go to a hole-in-the-wall bar and all they serve is PBR and High Life, grab a bottle or can and enjoy it for what it is. Grab a corn dog or some tater tots or bbq or whatever bar food they serve to make it go down easier and live in the moment.

If you overthink beer, you're missing the point and doing it wrong. :D

In that situation I go somewhere else. Sams aren't really craft beers anymore in my book. Mass production on that large a scale puts them in a different category for me. Never really cared for Sams anyway.

This is where the balance of life comes in. Being extreme one way or the other is pretty foolish. The answer is always, it depends. Corn dog and cheap beer can be just as enjoyable as relaxing with a good complicated brew. Such joy.

Make them go to bodega if you're in columbus, OH. I went there quite a bit, they have a pretty nice beer selection. I can drink crappier beers if I have to but sometimes I'll just opt to drink whiskey instead, maybe you can go that route.

Sam Adams really doesn't count. It one of the mostly widely distributed beers in the country. Not quite a craft beer.

Pick some middle of the road beer that every local bar has and learn to drink it. Mine is Fireman's 4.

I've been spoiled by Austin where you can walk into just about anywhere and they have at least 5 craft beers available. A lot of the places I got have 20+ craft beers. I've used to only drinking good beers.

I've only lived in Austin since I turned 21 so it's what I'm used to. It's interesting traveling sometimes because a lot of places will have a choice of budweiser, coors, and, if you're lucky, something like blue moon or sam adams.

Today, a bar that doesn't have at least a couple craft beers on tap is a dive that I don't want any part of. One of those places the cleans the rest rooms once a month, whether it needs it or not, and has been moping the bar with the same rag since last year.

Ehh, I tend to prefer imperial stouts, belgian quads, and IPAs, but, honestly, I'm content with most any warm fermented or wild fermented beer. (Not a fan a lagers.)

Most bars around here have Bass Ale, Newcastle Brown, and/or Guinness, these are all macros, and all quite drinkable IMO. (though I strongly prefer proper bars with 100+ beers on the list.)

Wow. I can't fathom what you drink, then. Let me guess, either all wild's or extremely hoppy beer?

I don't get how anyone can shit on Sam Adams - they're almost single-handedly responsible for keeping the craft beer industry afloat during the hop shortage. While Boston Lager might not be a great beer, a lot of their seasonals, imperial series, longshot's and such are great.

They were never "bought" - they've always been MillerCoors. You're right, you're not a beer snob - you're just ignorant. Same for anyone who shits on people who drink "lesser" beer and feel the need to put people down.
