I wrote out a proper reply using the character of linuxboy but then the computer I was using experienced a power withdrawal (resulting from someone tripping on a cord) and it shutdown so you'll just have to put up with an answer from Pav instead.

In the consumption of mass-marketed consumeristic goods as demanded by an overzealous populace of unenlighted, pseudo-intellectual members, the inevitable clashing of cultures and tastes demand resolution in the form of classification schemes. One such variant is exemplified in the "freaks" and "nuts" categories. Exact traits cannot be determined due to the nature and self-definitional capacities contained in the group members themselves. For example, an epithet of "freak" is held in high esteem promoting further reverse non-conformist values and fostering a dynamic of groupthink.
In short, the attempt to expound voluminously and with great verbosity upon the nature of such characteristics as well as allying the causes to inevitable voyerism, tends to invoke the conception of aware persons that the imitation and copying, or worse yet, stealing in kind without a modicum of modification to allow for contemporary expression and tastes, really disentangle our previous enjoyment of any real understanding.
