THIS IS NOT A FLAME WAR. i know that both these cards preform roughly the same. Now with the 7800gtx is out which card will i be better off with? im not buying for probly 3 more weeks(waitin for pay checks). i dont really have a buget i just want bang for buck. IM NOT CONSIDERING THE 7800GTX.

important specs:
ultra-d
3700 SD
1gb partiot

thanks guys

Bang for buck = X800XL

I personally won't be recommending the 7800GTX till its price becomes decent, but if you have money to spend, & you have 1600x1200 monitor or higher, it's the way to go i guess...

sorry im not even considering the 7800gtx just sense its out what card would you sugest between the 6800gt and 800xl

6800gt, it's a more powerful card but with a little price premium. I believe the OCing is much better with the 6800gt, the x800xl is almost clock-maxed out of the box.

The X800XL is $100 cheaper. There is no reason to get a 6800GT with such a huge price difference IMO. Get the X800XL.

Here are better prices:

$249 X800XL
$299 6800GT dual-dvi

Here are some reviews - maybe you can decide based on the games you like:

Xbitlabs
Toms hardware
HardOCP (summary)
Hothardware
Anandtech - Summary and Specific comparison

I'd probably get x800xl since it is $50 cheaper. Also, I wouldnt get 3700+ venice. Instead i'd get 3200+ and save another $130. Those easily overclock to 2.6ghz. The advantage of 1mb cache in the 3700+ san diego is negligible in games - LINK

I'd probably take these savings and put it towards your next videocard upgrade. Better yet, wait for 7800GT to arrive. Since you were going to spend $300-340 on a graphics card already, assuming 7800GT debuts at $499 in the next 3 weeks, thats only $160-200 extra for you to add to 7800GT. You'll end up spending the same amount of money, but even Venice 3200+ (non-overclocked) and 7800GT will SMOKE A64 3700+ (2.2ghz SD) and x800xl/6800GT.

For the price, I'd say the X800XL. But if cost isn't a factor, I'm running the 6800GT (MSI) and I really like it. At max settings (but medium dynamic light and medium dynamic shadows) with 4xAA in BF2 at 1280 x 1024 it runs quite cool (50 - 60 FPS), even after several hours of playing. I do run an exhaust fan in the slot beneath it, but it stays quite cool.

The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it needed to be connected directly to the PSU, but that's just a nitpick.

i looked at those 2 cards. i really want strong brands i have heard xfx is sh!t and i havent really heard about connect 3d. i dont really instend to OC. and right now ANY gpu is better then my 32mb integraded that i do game on...lol im also not really concerned about dual dvi becouase i will be runnning a 15pin monitor for a while. i will read those reviews now too

I have the Connect3D X800XL, great card. overclocks like sh!t, but it is a great card out of the box, no joke. The advantage of the X800XL over say the X800 Pro is it has all 16 pipes compared to twelve. This helps trmendously when you're going from no AA to 4xAA as there is not as big of a performance hit. The image quality on this card is amazing as well. 1280x1024 BF2 4xAA is absolutely gorgeous.

Bottom Line:

OpenGL games such as Doom3, Quake4 (when it comes out) go Nvidia

Direct3D games such as Far Cry, HL2, BF2 go ATI.

I started a post about this as well and got some very useful information, I would just like to pass it along.

I have read alot of review that use the 800XL card, 6600GT card and 6800GT cards. I have come to think that the 800XL card for the money is the best way to go, its better than the 6600GT but the 800XL does cost about $140-$150 more. Its on the same playing level as the 6800GT from all of the reviews I have read. Good luck.

The reason I posted those link to the threads that I started is because they have some other links to some very good reviews for all of the cards.

$90 more.

The cheapest PCI-E 6600GT is $163 from monarch computer I think

I got my Connect3D X800XL from Monarch Computer as well and it was $249 free shipping.

how loud is the fan on the connect 3d?

It is not terribly loud. I can't distinguish the GPU HSF from the retail CPU cooler, the PSU, the three sleeve bearing case fans or the ball bearing case fan I have.

If you're going for a silent system any GPU HSF will be loud, but if you're going for a normal setup like I have, the fan is not loud at all.

You are right, I had some other numbers in my head, it is about $100 more for the 800XL.
Sorry about that, I need to recheck my numbers before I post again.

Well the cost will depend on where you buy it from though.
