I'm starting to hate my PC: Anyone know how to fix an IDE controller problem

I bought a DVD drive today to replace my broken one, so I took the cables from the old one and put in the new and booted up the pc. Now I can't see my DVD or the cd-rw and in the sys properties there is a yellow exclamation point over the 2nd ide controller.

I shut down the PC and reseated all the connections and got the same error. I have no idea why this is happening, anyone got some clues?

Are they jumpered correctly? Have you tried just the CDRW as master on the 2nd IDE channel?

Did you remember to set the jumper on the new drive? Has to be a master and a slave on each ide channel.
