I'm starting P90X on Wednesday...

I did P90X for 2 months last fall, since then I've put on 40 pounds so I've decided to spend the cold Michigan winter taking those 40 pounds (and hopefully more) off.

Why wait until Wednesday? So the 90 minute Yoga X day falls on a weekend when I have more time. :)

Maybe once I'm done with this round I'll pick up P90X2.

Anyone else currently doing P90X?

How long are the workouts and what do you do in them? I've only heard of P90x and was just curious about it.

Most are an hour long including the warmup and cooldown (about 5 minutes each), the Yoga workout is 90 minutes.

You do lots of stuff in them... too much to tell you about here. You can do a search on YouTube or just visit beachbody.com if you want to get an idea for what the workouts are like.

I alternate just the cardiox and abripperx on my off days from my SL5x5 routine.

I know these aren't that difficult, but I don't want to overdo it on my off days, and these are fun, quick and don't require equipment.

You should mix in Kenpo X too then... it's one of the more fun ones.

I've been thinking about that. I was originally just doing cardio and ab because they are only about 45mins and 15 mins, but Kenpo is about 55 mins, so it's not horribly long. It might be good for me once a week also.

Some of the Kenpo exercises are in Cardio X, but Kenpo really helps work on your balance.

Did 2 rounds and then upped the intensity by getting p90x+ and Insanity and doing a hybrid of all three. Just finished my second round of that and will start back again probaby tomorrow. Beats my ass 3-5 days a week and I love every minute of it. Apparently x2 incorporates a lot of the moves from the plus videos, at least from what Ive read online.

I knocked the yoga x down to the first half only. I think I am plenty flexible doing all three workouts.

I started 2 years ago the day before my 44th birthday. Could barely do 15 chinups on my knees with the bands. Now I use a chinup stand and can easily knock out the 120 that legs and back throw at you.

All three routines have ab vids, with the plus being the hardest. You got chinups where you have to curl your knees up over the bar, L chinups and hanging bicycles. Tough to say the least.

Insanity is its own little piece of torture. I thought my cardio was good after X, but I was so wrong. It still is almost impossible for me to go through the vids without stopping. They make Plyo X look like a warmup vid.

Best of luck and keep crushing play!

Peace

Thanks! I had to bump my start date to today because I got stuck working late last night. Not such a bad thing... starting on December 1st will make it easier to count the first 30 days. :)

Lots of great information at
http://www.weightloss-hq.biz/weight-loss-forum/p90x-forum.html
Just remember your nutrition plan will be 75% of your success or failure with P90X.

Haven't seen that site yet... thanks.

I know the nutrition is important. I didn't take it quite as seriously the first couple weeks when I did it last year for the first time. I kept running out of steam 30 minutes into the workouts. Yawning and the whole bit. I'm trying to stay closer to the nutrition guide this time.

I can't follow the guide verbatim because of my schedule. I get up at 1 am and work until 12 or 1 pm driving a route sales truck. I dont have a place to hold 8 egg whites and a chafing dish to keep them warm. So I modified my diet on a sort of pseudo Michi's ladder and keep my diet really clean. Every day I take two light yogurts, a pb&j, a baggie of Kashi go lean cereal and at least two pieces of fruit. I eat all day and when I get home I drink a protein shake, about 45g or so and eat another small meal well before I work out. Then I cook dinner for the family after workout. Always a low fat meat like chicken, eyeround roast, skirt or flank steak. If you are at least mindful of what you eat, you can do it without the guide.

Peace

Once I cut out the junk food, I have trouble eating properly. I think I'm going to buy a mini-fridge for work so I can store more veggies and fruit stuff there and not have to pack them every day.

Day 1 went OK... I wasn't able to finish the workout. I made it through the exercises once but bonked at the second round and couldn't do a single pushup so I skipped to the cool-down.

You've done this before and you know it takes a while to ramp up, so dont get discouraged. I remember starting off like that and struggled mightily. Screw the 90 day menatality, jut get through it. I usually do it in 5 months rather than three. Remember, at least you are doing something rather than doing nothing.

Why dont you break each routine into 2 days? Do half one day, then knock out the other half the next. At least you are doing some of the program and as you start feeling frisky, you can up the intensity. Just dont give up!

Peace

Thanks for the suggestion. I think the main reason I didn't make it through was what I (didn't) eat yesterday. Today I ate much better and did Cardio X. It was tough but I kept up and did the whole thing.

Diet is probably the single biggest factor as to whether you succeed or not. If you up your metabolism and have nothing in the tank, you will crash like a son of a bitch. I really find the small meal, eat throughout the day routine to work best. I always have energy and the workouts are not hard ( relatively speaking) to get through.

This program was recommended to me yesterday by 2 separate friends. I'm really curious about it.

I've lost 36 pounds since March this year from eating less, walking more and I started going to the gym around May. Then a couple months ago my gym buddy got too busy and bailed on me and I'm starting to find it hard to keep pushing myself harder. Now the snow hit and it's cold and dark by the time I get home from work, so walking long distances sucks. I'm still eating well, but I need something like this to kick my ass back in high gear and keep the fitness and weight loss momentum going!

What is the diet part of the program like?

Keep us posted! I'm curious to learn more about it.

Gonna have to change your user name to carrot or broccoli.:p

Grats.

LOL. Thanks.

I have 12 more pounds to get to my goal, at which time I think I'll set a new goal for another 10 pounds. Maybe then I'll change my user name ;)

The nutrition plan has three phases. In the first phase, you reduce your intake of carbs almost nothing and eat a ton of protein and a little fat. In the second phase you incorporate more carbs, and in the third phase, yet more carbs. The theory being that as you're starting out, you don't want the carbs so you slim down. Then as you build lean muscle mass, you can add more carbs back into your diet because your lean muscle will consume them.

I sorta prefer the theory that if you're just starting out you can forget about your weight, build muscle and endurance, then it'll be easier to take the weight off with all that new found muscle mass.

*EDIT* I'm not following the nutrition plan exactly, just sticking to the basic concept of not overeating, eating lots of protein, staying away from sugar and anything unnatural (like artificial sweeteners). In fact, I'm not really eating anything that's in the guide - just making good choices that follow the basic concept of the nutrition plan. But if you wanted to be that anal about it, the guide has every meal and every snack along with recipes planned out for the entire 90 days.

How's your progress going Jeff?

I'm going to do the prep stuff, fit test, etc tonight or tomorrow. I probably won't start until the new year because of holiday travels (and not being at the gym in January would be nice!)

Unfortunately not as well as I would have liked. I injured my neck, so I haven't been doing anything. Doctors orders were to wait 1-2 weeks before resuming anything strenuous, but I just got P90X2 in the mail yesterday, so I think I'm going to start tomorrow as long as it doesn't hurt my neck to do the workouts. I figure if it doesn't hurt, it'll only speed the healing process.

Sorry to hear that, hope you recover quick.

And thanks for the Kenpo X suggestion from earlier in the thread, it was a great addition to my hybrid strength training / p90x rotation. I forgot how fun that session is. I'm thinking about throwing in yoga x now too, but I dreaded that one when I was doing the whole program.
