Whats some things im going to need/buy so i will be complete in my process or repairing heres some i already thought of:

1. Legal software (dang this is hard for me)
2. Legal operating systems (another hard for me!)
3. Anti-static mat and wrist
4. Some extra pc parts like ram
5......Yours

Im thinking of them giving me the money for the parts they need and i will pick them up @ bestbuy or compusa or circuit city, but if they dont have what i need than i will order from newegg.com I will be making a flyer today to put up in the grocery stores around town and give to people i know with my addy/phone #/tech email addy. I will have help getting this setup from older people to make sure everything is up to top-notch like grammer/ect. One thing where scared of is making an mistake like everyone does and killing somone computer or damaging a radeon 9800 card! I will be installing operating systems, anti virus programs, get rid of spyware, setting up networks (wireless or wire), dsl/cable and more.... for a resonable price of $15 and if it going to take alittle longer to solve the problem i will still be charging $15. After my ratings go up around town i will have alittle buniess to contribute to and money and a good thing is this little jobie can go straight thru my school year.

So add on from 5. pls and thank you guys!

maybe try to get some cheap spare parts that you know are working so you can trouble shoot by replacement

and you need to advertise a lot... maybe a buy & sell newspaper if you got one in your area

$15 is too cheap. Charge at least $40/hour.

Also, if you buy at Bestbuy, etc. you will make no profit.

//edit most people dont even know an certfication even exist in them world for computers! (this would be non computer greeks and ppl who have normal lives and dont spend there day infront of there computer screen refreshing anandtech for stuff.) just saying this in a normal way and not a bad mouth angry crazy person.

Are you saying any service call is $15? That's way too cheap. If I bought a new PC I'd pay $15 to have someone back up my current system, install my choice of OS and reinstall all my applications and data. And I know how to do that. You should make it $15 for the first half-hour with an additional $15 for each half-hour.

If I was going to do a business like that, I'd spend some time thinking about what computer n00bs would want to pay for, and make up a menu of charges. Virus cleaning and anti-virus installation, $50 plus cost of software. Personal computer training for email, $40/hour. Converting photographs to digital, $1/each. Stuff like that. I would target the specific tasks that people might want and offer prices for that.

hmm.... Buying parts from Best Buy would not be a good choice. You would spend too much money there and when you mark up they will figure that out and just go to Best Buy themselves.

I think you should really think about your business plan. $14/hr won't cut it. You'll be wasting money by spending time on hard problems, while they are getting a huge deal.

Certifications do make a difference, adding the A+ and MCP/MCSE logo says a lot, it also attracts attention to a flyer.

As with others, I to came close to starting my own business. I mainly do contract work on the side with small businesses now (plus my other jobs).

PS. Try to offer after hour on calls, with an added fee (depending on where you live)

You dont think $20 is too much for someone just starting this around town. Don't want people to think im robbing them for an simple job that they cant even do. Maybe what he said $15 for 1st hour than after that $10 per each hour and setting up a chart that says like:

Os+software $20
Cpu upgrades $25 (b/c of hassle of cutting your dam* finger off trying to install an amd cpu's)
Video card/Ram $10
Any other hardware changes Price will be bargin @ site
Cleaning inside of case $?

And in small font: Notice if something happens to your pc while im repairing i can offer to repair and replace part at within a resonable time like 1 week)

Dont forget about getting the appropriate business licenses (State, county, city) as well as registering with and obtaining a tax certificate (to collect and pay sales tax). Some states might require you to post a bond for anticipated sales tax collection as well as for opening a repair business.

No offense, but from your typing skills and ability to convey a logical message I would not let you touch my stuff much less pay you to touch it. People want to hire someone who makes them calm and comfortable. Work on the professionalism and I think you have a pretty good idea, you could make some decent money on the side but I would say it isn't enough for a full time job. My .02

what kind of credential / qualification u have ?

> None but do you think people is really gong to ask this umm nope

I am really wondering how old are u ? HS, college, etc ?

Do u think ppl will trust you if u have no credential / qualification ?

hmm.. at least, I wouldn't have my car service by someone without proper qualification...

> One thing where scared of is making an mistake like everyone does and killing somone computer or damaging a radeon 9800 card!

that means either you

1) have NO balls to take risk
2) are not qualified to do your job

> $45/hr for any returning cust.
> 1st timers will be paying $25/hr

bad business model, charge more for returning customer ?

> You are going to be married to that customer for the rest of your life for $15.

so, the customer screw up the pc after a short period of time after u fix it, since u must have some sort of warrnay for your service, are u going to fix it again for free ?
