I'm SO happy with my 2005fpw

I just received my 2005fpw today, and I am very very impressed. I currently have it hooked up on my 8500LE with a D-Sub connector and it's crystal clear. I wonder how it will look when I get my 9500Pro/9550/9600 with DVI? I can't imagine it looking any better to be honest.

My monitor has NO dead pixels (none that I can see anyways - is there an easy way to test this besides make the desktop background black/white?) and the backlight bleed is so minimal in the lower left corner that I can't really complain about it. In fact I don't even notice the bleed unless I am specifically looking for it.

I was kind of scared after reading some people's posts about the monitor, but I'm glad that I bought it now. And it even arrived pretty fast (5 business days). I love Dell.

Anyways if anyone has any questions or whatever feel free to ask.

UPDATE: Got my new video card (9700 Pro), and somehow it's even better with DVI. The text is definitely much more crisp and clear, and everything in general is a little sharper.

The best way to look for hot or stuck pixels is against a black background. Dead pixels aren't as frequent. Glad you like your new monitor, I have a replacement for mine coming soon and can't wait!

It varies from person to person as far as what they notice, but to my eyes, my 2005FPW is quite a bit better over DVI than over VGA. When connected by VGA and viewing text, I can see some faint secondary "ghost" image, like what you might see on an analog TV station if you don't have the best signal. I have my HDTV tuner hooked up to the monitor through the VGA input, and it's acceptable since it's mostly video, but I can definitely tell when I look at the text of the OSD.

Generally when I search for dead pixels, I first, hide the icons on the desktop, then hide the toolbar. Then I do the following:

Search for any defects under Red, Blue, Green, Black, White backgrounds. Takes no more than 3 minutes, and is a fool proof way to see if you have any off/stuck sub pixels.

if i had one or 2..depending where they were, i wouldn't return it..being in canada, likely a real pain to return unless it's "broke"...

having one or 2 is common. I work in retail and i would get so mad if poeple return monitors for one dead pixel. One person returned a plasma, or lcd and she said the pixel was dead but i dont think she was returning it for only that reason. I told her that that its common and even if you get one with no dead pixels some time down the road ull get one becuase they can die out. Shieven gameboys get them.

If you pay thousands of $$ for a tv I would expect it to be perfect.

It would be very uncommon for a pixel to become dead or stuck anytime but in the first week or 2 of use. Especially in plasma.

Who i thought i was picky.

when paying so much money for a piece of equipment, i would return it if there was a messed up subpixel, if the backlighting shined through the panel too much, anything. As a consumer, you have the right to be fully happy with your purchase.

while in principle i agree that if there is any flaw it should be returneable (and it usually is..just be prepared to potentially have to go through it a # of times to get a pixel perfect product) the reason i read that there is a good chance of some flawed pixels is:

a) the bigger the monitor, the more chance of a dead pixel..were talking less than 10 out of what..1.6 million or something like that on a 20 inch?

b) more importantly, a pixel perfect monitor is a possibility, but apparently the cost is prohibitive to create them 100% of the time without driving the price through the roof.

it's unfortunate frankly that bigger screen lcd's came to market without the tech being perfect..but it's a consumer driven market..they want them , perfect tech or not:)

Although I have not had a chance to play games yet, I am another happy 2005fpw owner and that is on a Dell 4700 w/ built in video. And I have a 2nd one coming today as I was so worried about what people were saying but mine is perfect.

I am almost tempted to keep both but have no room or need for two.

ok. I just found a dead or stuck pixel. It is not going to kill me, but I will test the 2nd one I got just a few minutes ago, and send the worse one back.

Funny how your eyes are drawn right to it once you see it.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about one dead/stuck pixel. Regarding which monitor you're going to send back, I personally would send back the one with worse backlight bleed.. to me that is a bigger issue than stuck pixels. Easy way to test it is to run something that will be full-screen black (e.g. screensaver, paused movie).

I'm getting my new video card tomorrow (9700 with DVI), so I'll update with if I notice any improvement in picture quality.

I do see some bleed but did have some on my old analog Dell lcd too. Mostly noticable during bootup but it never really bothered me that much. My dad has a couple of Dell 193 19" lcd's at work and they don't suffer the backlight issue but the 2005 is just huge.

This panel is Fed 05, Rev. A01 made in Mexico.

I am going to test the other one this morning and see if there is any improvement and will report back too.

I had two 2001fps and neither had a stuck pixel. Both had a little bit of backlighting on the left edge.
