Last night I came home from work and i didn't sleep, I had a really bad stomach ache...I slept ALL day today (till 5 or so) and now I'm just lying around. I truly feel awful :(

Being sick sucks.

I guess I'll join the rest of you in neffing my saturday night away...I can't do much else :(

My dad and aunt had some stomach bug recently too. My dad caught it while we were visiting GP's and my aunt in Maryland.

I couldn't put anything into my stomach until this afternoon. I would throw it up,it sucked.

After I got a bit better I took some Emetrol, it worked somewhat...

But I'm still not hungry; I didn't each much yesterday, and today all I had was two pieces of toast...

Make sure you stay hydrated. That's the major important thing. If you do get hungry, nibble some dry toast or crackers. See how that holds before moving on to anything more substantial.

What is "OK" to drink? My mom has been giving me ginger ale and apple juice. I don't know if that's a family tradition or if that is actually medically correct. She says I shouldn't have any acidic juices like orange or grapefruit because if I throw up, it will burn, and that makes sense. I don't know why the ginger ale though.

The ginger in ginger ale helps with nausea. Remember the movie Water World? That entire set was a floating set and so they provided the crew with ginger snaps to prevent them from getting seasick. Stay away from acidic drinks. Your tummy won't like the acid. Apple juice and ginger ale are fine. If you feel you're getting dehydrated, drink some pedialyte, it restores things lost during vomiting, etc.

Ah now it comes into focus...I guess that makes sense.

I'm not feeling dehydrated, but I'm still not hungry. Now I'm just snacking on saltine crackers, trying to get some food into my system.

I'll the the pedialyte if I get sicker as the night goes on.

Don't worry about your not being hungry, your appetite will return full force once the nasties are out of your system. Think of it as sickness induced detox. It is good to nibble some food, though, to keep your strength up, and increase your intake as you get better. Just take it slow, gets lots of liquid and rest, and you'll be on your feet in no time.

<<I'm not feeling dehydrated>>

You may not be feeling it, but you might be. When I had food poisoning, I got very dehydrated, though I wasn't aware of it at the time, because I was so preoccupied with the stomach cramps. Just make sure that the vomiting is under control and you can get liquids into your system.

<<I'm not feeling dehydrated>>

Most people don't realize that hangovers are a result of alcohol-induced dehydration, either.
