I'm sick of incompatibilities

Maybe this is a pipe dream, but does there exist a
motherboard that isn't incompatible with windows 2000
and a NVIDIA GeForce? My VIA based motherboard = p00p.
It's great in ME, but in 2000 sucks.
At this stage I don't care if it's a piii, p4 or amd board.
I'm just sick of fighting with random lockups in
2000. I've tried all the fixes/hot fixes/tweaks and
nothing seems to help.

I now officially hate VIA.

Thanks for any input. FYI: telling me your VIA based board works great in 2000 won't help me at all. This is the third VIA based board I've owned and all have had compatibility problems.

I to hate VIA Chipsets.. they are NOT as good as Intel boards. Not everybody has trouble but there are plenty who do...

Try diableing acpi to do so Open device manager (right click my computer,go to propeties, hardware, device manager),open the computer tab (first one down),Double click on "Advanced configuration and power interface" (to get to proporties)click the driver tab,and go down to "update driver",once you get there choose "next",then "display a list of known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver" click next, then show all hardware for this device class, then you will see a list of drivers, you want:
"Manufacturer=standard computer" "Models=standard pc"
Install this driver (it will say it wont work but it will) Reboot after you install this (it will ask you to reboot anyway).

When you restart it will load all your devices again, you may need to track down certain files and drivers using the "find files or folders" tool ,once it reloads all your drivers you will reboot and then everything will be ok .

I have no problems in 2k or 98/ME. See below for system config. What mobo are you using? You need to install w2k sp2beta for VIA problems. If I remember correctly microsoft forgot to put VIA AGP support into w2k.

You and me both, I've been working with incompatabilities for about a month now... Nothing I do keeps my system from crashing out of UT... It starts out slowly, a crash after 8 10 hours... but then it gets more and more frequent... Until I start getting locks, and crashes all over the place... Reinstall, and I'm good for awhile, and the cycle starts again...

I hear you... I'm impressed with the speed, but not happy with all I have to go through to get the system stable....

Seems like I've tried everthing too...

I initially had acpi disabled, but my USB craddle for an iPaq wouldn't install correctly...not sure why, but as soon as i enabled acpi it installed ok.

It just seems that VIA's AGP performance/compatability has always been an issue, even back when I had my k6-2 system. I don't understand
why they can't get it right. I was hoping that when I bought my KT133 system with the latest 4in1 drivers it would all be resolved....

:(

I also noticed that in most win2000 benchmarks most people don't use VIA based boards.

I'll double check my IRQs, thanks for the input. Except for your typical crass remarks implying incompentence that one comes to expect, y'all been helpful.
