I'm screwed, there are no jobs

The past 2-3 months have been full of regrets. My job is shaky and I might be going unemployed. I really wanted to find something before the axe drops.

I got lucky and landed two great interviews. The interviewing process now is incredibly hard and I did not land anything. In the good times, I would've gotten to the final round imo. I started looking at other positions and found one that I was a perfect fit for. But after I got a referral through my network, I was told that I applied too late since they already offered someone the position. I regret this very much because I had the chance to apply earlier but I waited.

There is no where to apply now. I've been checking for the past 2 weeks everyday and nothing new comes up. Anyone else feel stuck in their situation or desperate to find a new position before something bad happens to your job?

We've been interviewing to fill a single, high-urgency position for the last 6 months.
The process has stretched so long that we lost the requisition, not to mention all the time wasted by a whole bunch of engineers (including me) on a whole bunch of panel interviews :|

When you can't get a job in your field after really trying, then MOVE to fertile area in your specialty.

If you're in tech and have experience, for instance, Silicon Valley is THE place to get a job fast.

blow dudes for cash behind the seedy bowling alley

That was the job that went away. To China I think. Or Mexico?
No one gets a woody here, anymore.
I think its either women's lib, or the high cost of viagra.
Or maybe Im just not doing it right? 😀
Well, they did say they were screwed....

(I think I might go to hell for that post... sorry)

Sit tights and don't assume.

Also when looking for a job you have to be more optimistic > keep you head up.

Put your resume on career builder and monster.com. Apply every day to any position that's interesting. It's been 2 years since I left my resume on those sites and I still get calls from recruiters.

What do you do and how much experience do you have doing it?

Then move your ass. Can't stand people who complain about not getting a job but refuse to move to a new location with openings. Do you have kids or a sick parent who is keeping you from moving?

Add Dice to that list.

Set your profile to not active. It does not reported.to the headhunter search engines.

Also, if looking, refresh your profile every 3 months. That triggers search engines attention.

Yeh I have not updated my resume since I've been working at my current job for one year now. I'll have to get on there and mess around.

Oh and what's the best way to find jobs in other states/cities that are stable. I've had contractors tell me they go there, 6 months later they are looking elsewhere.

madison, wi is starting to explode with work. just look at craigslist- this town is small but there are hundreds of job openings, for all levels of experience.

if youre in the tech feild, you would be smart to apply to the company, EPIC. you get a job there and it will likely be the last one you need.

tons and tons of jobs around here. my current company is actually having trouble getting the right people in here for the job. they have a lot of interviews but are picky about who they hire. they pretty much only make offers to 10% of the people they interview.

Most contracting jobs are for 6-12 months. So what you are stating is not unexpected.

Dice and others allow you to setup search agents that will notify you when positions are listed.

That can cover technical areas as well as geographical, contract/perm, etc.

Looking at my "openings inbox" -( I have a filter that pushes emails to a specific inbox from these web sites). The below sites "scrub" other sites and such based on your filters. some duplication happens (60-70%)

ziprecruiter.com
bright.com
sologig.com
Corp-Corp.com
BusinessWorkforce.com
jobfoxalerts.com

OP, what industry are you in?

I might be able to help if you're in the ATL area and looking for work in IT/support.

I have a job at least.... it sucks and I have been trying to find something else. Had one interview in the last 8 months.

Never leave without getting the next one. I new my contract couple years ago was not going to renew so I found something else beforehand thank god

My company is hiring hundreds of engineers all around the world for all manner of work.

If you can't find a job then either you're not qualified or you're in the wrong field.

Companies could go a long way to fixing that by eliminating their HR departments. 😛

What field do you work in OP? You may have to move to find a job, like the others said. Unfortunately, it's not that easy for some. Moving is costly and you shouldn't do it unless you've landed a stable position. Definitely start applying in other cities and states though.
