I'm sad to say I've never had a package delivered into my hands

Never had an actual package delivered into my hands in my life. I always wondered how that whole "sign here sir" thing works, and I've yet to experience it. My package deliveries consist of a notice left on my door or mailbox saying "attempt was made, package will be ready to pickup at central location the next business day".

The reason for this rant is, today I got a notice on my door and I was home the whole day sick, and no one even rang the doorbell, they just left the notice and drove off.

I'm not sure why these guys even drive the trucks around and go through the motions of attempting deliveries, when they know probably the majority of the population is at work during that time. And to not even ring the doorbell or knock? Wow...

Why am I even paying for shipping to my address? Why not give me a discount and ship it to a central location? I"ve been getting packages now for 10 + years, so yea, I'm a bit pissed.

Anyone else in Canada have this same problem?

While I'm not particularly interested in holding any packages, I have noticed what you're talking about. The UPS deliver person for my area is this bitter old woman who starts filling out the "you weren't home" slip before she even reaches the door. I noticed the truck once and ran downstairs and opened the door right as she was slapping the notice onto my door. I gave her a WTF look and she muttered some swears under her breath before handing it to me.

That's terrible. UPS and Fed Ex is at least a private service, they should give a fuck. Canada Post is government.

These delivery services like UPS and FedEx hire ninjas, I swear.

You basically have to sit yourself as close to the door as possible, and hope you hear the truck coming down the street. If you have smooth roads you're screwed. 😛
Thankfully I always hear the delivery trucks down my street at my parents house. So I'm practically opening the door as the driver gets there.

Ya...that's why I always have packages delivered to work. More than likely I'll be there to pick it up, and if not, one of the admin staff will hold on to it for me.

That's actually a good idea. The issue is Canada Post is a government service. If something like public transportation caters to people by increasing buses during rush hour, why not then cater to people by hiring evening staff and delivering packages when people actually are home?

What if I'm handicapped and it's a big issue for me to pick up packages at a central location. They should have these types of options in place, sadly they don't. 100 % delivery failure rate.

Assuming the place I order it from isn't being a dick and will deliver to an address other than my billing address it's way easier having things delivered to my office. On those other items, well, it's a 30 minute drive there and 30 minute drive to the UPS holding facility, 20 there and back for FedEx 🙁

Hmm...yea, I forgot that this thread is about Canada Post. Most of my packages are delivered via FedEx or UPS. Mind you, I used to work an admin job, and I sent and received packages via Canada Post and didn't really have any problems. Probably their business service is better though.

As a fellow 'nuck, I am all for government services, but it's too bad most of them lick balls. I've had regular mail delivered way late (or lost) so I agree Canada Post is shit. Ironically, BC Transit and BC Ferries were OK before they were privatized and now you overpay for shittier service.

As for your suggestions about increasing staff during evening hours, and making it easier for handicapped people...you're making far too much sense, which is why government agencies like Canada Post won't adopt those practices 😛.

Once, the driver rang the bell and placed the box by the door because it wasn't anything valuable. Other times, they've rang the doorbell and waited until someone opened the door.

I have a concierge at my building, so he will usually sign for any packages for me and just hang onto them until I get home to pick them up. The only time he won't is if there are any fees (brokerage, or what have you) owing.

Well some good things and some bad things. Concierge is definitely one of the good things though.

I live in a shitty apartment, but our leasing office takes packages for us which is very nice.

Canada Post here seems OK. I've had packages delivered by them before and only once have they not tried knocking. I guess it depends on the delivery guy. However, I do work from home, so I'm always home. That probably makes a difference...

Dogs are helpful too.
