I'm resigning from my big-corporate job on Friday.

More power to you - I feel the same way. It's just that after this long, it's really tough leaving a work-at-home environment for the great unknown. I started here since college so I am ridiculously underpaid compared to the industry avg.

You know...just because you're abandoning corporate life, that doesn't mean you will get your soul back...once you give it away, it's gone forever.

couldn't take it anymore. I won't name the company, but they're a large, multinational corporation with over 200k employees and 200k contractors. Maybe more, I really don't know.

I couldn't take being treated like crap anymore. It hurts my brain when a company the size and value of this one says they can't afford to replace my 6 year old laptop. Their raises don't even keep up with inflation. But most of all, they treat you like you're some kind of con in a jail. I mean literally, they have turnstiles with jailbars in the office.

So I'm leaving and going to a much smaller company. My dry cleaning bill will be eliminated, and for many reasons, I look forward to this. I'm also looking forward to the pay and title bump. I really, REALLY just want to rage at my soon-to-be-former employer, but I don't want to burn bridges with any particular people.

Anyway. Here goes the next step of my career...
I would also resign from the Republican National Party....

Nah... it grows back slowly over time. At some point, you actually start feeling bad for people you know who got laid off once again because it's no longer a quarterly occurrence.

Yep. I hear you dawg. 🙁

If you're not in that inner circle, you can forget good raises, not being thrown under the bus, promotions.

I really want to open a restaurant and go into business for myself. A lot of hard work, but at least I'd be fully in control of my own destiny.

FTFY

You keep telling yourself that...if it makes you feel better...OK.

It's like losing your virginity...once it's gone, it's gone forever.

(I realize that's something that most folks here won't understand though) 😛

I've been here for 2 years. They have me a 4 year old, out of warranty laptop when I joined.

Funny thing is that when they hired me, they escalated and got an executive order to pay me beyond the salary cap. I do work well beyond my pay grade and title, received multiple awards for performance and leadership, and was the highest ranked (still am) engineer in the entire line of business.

What did I get? A 1.98% raise and an insulting bonus. Also, out of the 75+ people I've interviewed to essentially replace myself, the 3 people I gave a thumbs up to were all declined because of stupid BS. Basically, since they weren't friends with the mid-level management, they didn't get an offer. Meanwhile, we're left with a bunch of buddies dicking around all day for more money than I make.

Join my world. From the moment you step foot in everyone will tell you: "It's up or out".

...Assuming you like working 50-80 hour weeks....

I averaged 40 for the first year, then 50 for the second year. The last 3 months had me going 70-80 hours due to layoffs, resignations, and inflexible deadlines. Now I'm back to 40 hours a week because I ran out of fucks to give.

You beat me... I quit to explore some other options on my own with nothing lined up.

Think I'll get back into my field transportation engineering (fml) by going back to "community college" next year. Had this as a back-up before saying "fuck it" and resigning. Wanted to switch into teaching, still might, but more budget cuts coming, so no way I'll be able to do it in my country.

That's how big companies do business. They crap on employees in order to earn more profit for share holders. Good to hear you're getting out though.

Sorry, not always true. I work for a very large company and am very happy. Good environment, great boss, great pay/bonus structure, very good work/life balance.

Name of the company, please.
Sorry, won't do that, but it is the leader in its industry and a Fortune 250 company.

I'll give you another example of the good side of my company. A couple years ago, the president actually sent out an email requesting employees to turn off their company cellphones and log off their computers over the weekends. Business could wait until Monday.

The government and media are SO STUPID for believing the "too big to fail" lie.

Too big to keep afloat with tax dollars if they are failures! That is what they are!

😵

I assume that others in the president's pay grade are actively seeking a hitman to rid the company of this detrimentally socialist insanity?

same here.

well, I won't say "great" pay/bonus but it's slightly above market and the benefits + work/life balance are above market.
