Well I work with catering... been doing it for about 1 and a half years and the place has really gone down the sh!thole. We're doing a picnic today for 500 people and I really can't take it anymore. What should I do? I just got sent home to change just now because my clothes had a wrinkle in it. Anything fun do you think I should do before I call it quits? :D

yea its a pretty bad economy now, but if you are fed up with the job, i would suggest you try to "accidentally" drop as many food dishes as you can before they tell you to get the hell away :)

oh, and its bonus points if you drop them on customers

Apply some "special" sauce on the creme brulee. Seriously, as the others have indicated, you might want to ensure you have something else lined up before jumping ship. It shouldn't take you long to find something else - so just put up with these monkeys for the next few weeks while you "transition" into a new assignment. Then, you'll be able to watch the company go under from the sidelines - if it has gone downhill as you described.

if you get fired I dont believe you get umemployment. I think you get it if you are laid off. Difference being, they have no choice but to lay you off (loss of capital, project got canceled, etc), but firing is done when an employee isn't performing up to standards.

Anyway, I'm all for food getting accidentally spilled on people.

Wrong you cannot get it if you quit (except for some harassment cases) if you are fired for cause like stealing your company they can fight the claim. but if it is for performance you'll get it easy.

If you get laid off, you are automatically qualified for unemployment. If you are fired, you employer has a right to dispute your claim. If you quit, you'd better have another job lined up (if you like an income).

If you have the choice, it is always better to run TO something than FROM something. Keep that income stream alive while you start a serious job search. It will give you far more and better options about the next job you accept if you're not broke and hungry for the job.

Good luck. :)

Dude, if you're young and still living at home, quit all you want!

Otherwise, it's a dangerous game.

FYI.. you don't get unemployment if you get fired or if you resign.. only if you get laid off

Hrmmm...put milk cartons in everyone's desk drawer or lockers. That kinda fun, or not.

Or, you can just eat a hostess twinkie. That seems to solve a lot of problems. Don't settle for the fake ones, or else you'll find yourself saying "Where's the cream filling?" Hahah..

Not true in NY State, at least.
Unemployment is usually available if you get fired.

No. Basically though, you dont have a job anymore, tada. But no. Fired is like you fsck up and they get rid of you and being laid off is because they have to. Someone correct me if i screwed anything up with that. Oh, btw my dad just got laid off cause CGI SUCKS.

Usually when you're laid off, you get one of those servence packages.. My uncle got a 6-month servence package and got to keep his company car :) When you're fired, all you have is a footprint on your @$$ :p

It depends on your state laws. Most states give unemployment if you were fired w/o a warning. I think it is pretty easy to get UC it just sometimes takes couple months to get through the disputes if your employer fights it. So while you are in it no money.

Better make sure you have money to live on before you quit. I agree w/ most ppl here find a different job first.
