Gigabyte Ga-7ZX-1
Duron 700
128 mb Generic ram
Abit Siluro GF2 MX
Sound Blaster Live value
Mid tower w/ 250 watt p.s.
15 GB Quantum HD
Samsung 15" monitor
Asus 50x cd rom

he's not going to be doing any o/cing so he's got a standard fan on there and I figured a 250 watt power supply would be enough for what he's using.

I've put in the cpu , ram , vid card , HD and cd rom , there's power being supplied to the mobo but the system is not booting at all ( no POST , no beep ).The monitor power led is flashing green on and off which I figure must be normal for a Samsung monitor in standby mode .

There is power to the mobo , all fans are spinning , i've tried the sys on a diff monitor , with a different video card , moved the dimm to another slot , changed the dimm , all with no luck . Can anyone tell me if connecting any of the following improperly could be the cause of the prob ?

HDD Led , Reset switch , speaker connector, power led , soft power connector.

It's basically a fresh system , I was gonna verify the bios settings , then partition and format the drive , the condition of the HD shouldn't be relevant to this prob should it ?

I HATE when that happens!

From what you describe it sounds like the CPU or RAM. Either the CPU isn't seated right, or it doesn't like the RAM...

I haven't seen the LED connectors cause a problem like that. If you're not sure you can just plug in the power switch line and leave the rest off.

Good luck

Hey GreenGoblin,
Are you sure you put in the power switch, reset & speaker connectors to the MB correctly? Try them the other way. Are you getting any beeps?
After you're sure you've seated the RAm & AGP correctly, try using a different DIMM or AGP card to see if that changes anything.

Ah yes the dreaded "I have no freaking clue why its not working" problem. I have encountered this before. I found that the motherboard was not seated in the case properly. I got no beepes or anything, just the noise of fans spinning and my drawer opening and pulling out a hammer. But It maybe the CPU And of course the lack of grounding ones self. But don't hesitate to pull out the trusty hammer and start the beat the livin (or should i say dead) crap out of it

Heh ya , was kinda frustrating , especially when u gotta remove the video card each time you have to move or install ram , i'm gonna verify the cpu , and if i gotta I'll try booting up the board out of the case .
I think i've pretty much ruled out the video card or ram being the problem , anyways thanks for the suggestions guys.
