I'm pulling my hair out here...30 hours and counting without a cigarette! EDIT: I made it thru a week!

After 22 years of a pack a day I've decided I can't do it anymore. The combination of the cost for a pack of smokes these days and the fear of the effects of second-hand smoke on my 22-month-old has driven me to give it up. I quit for 2 years about a decade ago, but the day my divorce became final I went to the bar and started blackening my lungs all over again. I figure it's time to quit again...but I'm dying here! Think I'll go to bed...if I'm sleeping I'm not thinking about it. 😀

Oh, and all you smokers out there...you guys are still my brothers. 😀 Feel free to light up next to me in the N/S section of the restaraunt.

<< It is tough, but well worth the struggle. Congrats to you on your smart decision to quit. >>

Wellbutrin or Zyban 😀

Congratulations, you're doing great. Sleep it off, call in sick tomorrow if you need to. The first couple days are the worst, then it's a downhill ride the rest of the way.

I took up chewing sugarless gum when I quit, and I haven't been able to give it up since.

Good luck. 🙂

I should add, don't be afraid to chomp a piece of Nicorette gum if you really, really, really need to (forget the Welbutrin). It's nasty, but it's better than a cigarette. If I didn't have Nicorette my first couple days, I wouldn't have succeeded. I only used like 6 pieces total though, so I didn't get hooked on the gum, except for Trident and Extra. 🙂

THANK GOD. Someone who knows what I'm going through. It's been like five dayz for me. And it wasn't soo bad when I didn't think about it. But when I come to a place like ATOT, and some dude named GAARD reminds me that it sux, well........that's just GREAT! (JK)

Man, we need to start our own support group or something.

The worse part of it all.....is I'm doing it for a girl. (I kno, I wussified.)

Man, keep me updated on the struggle.
And any tips would be appreciated. It actually gets better after three dayz or so.

EDIT: You will start to cough up phlegmy stuff. (I did/am.)

good luck 🙂 I've never smoked, and don't plan to. Unfortunately, but kinda luckily, I have asthma, so when I'm around smokers, I can't even get in 1/8 of a breath, so smoking myself, would not be a wise choice 😉 If you quit, one less person to hold my breath to while walking past them 🙂

This thread makes me want to go downstairs and fire up a biggo Marlboro red, have the sweet sweet smoke seep into my lungs as I take the first big long drag.

Back in a few minutes..................

hang in there man, it'll be well worth it

<< once a quitter always a quitter. Just remember this, hope it helps. >>

yea you dont want to be a quitter, you better start smoking again, its good for you 😉

I expect alot of people in Canada to be stopping soon as well. They just jacked up the prices by $2, to $9.something.
Smoking is for suckers.

Right there with ya, today is 2 weeks without a smoke and the cravings are not as bad as the last time I tried to quit.

Stay strong

<< Can I have your leftover cigarettes? >>

Yeah, like I didn't already go thru the trash looking for butts. 😀

<< I took up chewing sugarless gum when I quit, and I haven't been able to give it up since >>

My jaw aches from chewing so much. Every now and then I catch myself chewing with my mouth open and think "Man, you look like all those bltches in the office." 😉

When I got up this morning it sure was weird not having a smoke with my morning coffee. I can handle weird though, last night was gotta-have-it madness. Got thru it though...going on 51 hours.

Thank God for microwave popcorn! 😀

Keep yourself occupied as much as possible.
Workout, Take-a-Drive, fiddle with stuff.
Hate to mention it but eat something or get something in your
mouth. It is a challenge for the mind and the body. It is a choice though.🙂

I quit cold turkey 11 years ago. You can do it, too.

I do think, however, that you should try some gum or some patches.

Nicotin is probably one of the most addictive things on earth. It will take you months to get it out of you, but you can do it.

Hang in there.

Oh yeah, here's a good website: Quit Smoking!
