don't eat sushi
parasites are VERY common in fish, if the fish is uncooked there is no reason for those parasites to be dead, hence you get parasites

as for Japan being very safe and them being friendly: what is so different in Japan that makes city streets safe at night besides morals put into kids while they grow up?

Nice to see that I'm not the only otaku here, I fully agree with that advice!

Eat something other than sushi. There's lotsa other stuff to eat over there that you don't see in most Japanese restaurants in the U.S.

Japan is a very cool place. Where else can you go into a 7-11 store and buy dried octopus tentacles.

Sushi is raw fish with rice. Sashimi is raw fish without rice.

Most people associate the word sushi with raw fish ? maybe because many sushi varieties are prepared using some type of fish or seafood. But actually, sushi is the marriage of vinegar rice to other ingredients. This section features links to the history of sushi, to sushi terms, to sushi etiquette, and to nutritional facts about sushi. You'll also find resources to locate the best Japanese Restaurants in the world, and our own recommendations concerning sushi restaurants in Montreal.

okay, how DO i say "restroom"? :)

I'm going to TOKYO & OSAKA, gonna take a train to & from ea. of these cities, but I don't know which city I'm gonna touch down in when I fly in, haven't decided.

Um, i think I might spend 2 to even 4 weeks there, spendthrift or anybody, know of any cheapo hotels i can hang in for about 50 to 70 a night? I'll spend about 6 to 10 days in a hotel that's about 100 to 130 perhaps, but the rest i'll be interested in some el cheapo ones.

The less I spend on living quarters the more i can spend on food and other interesting things.

What is there to do in Osaka btw, and what are some more like night clubs so i can get a feel for the nighttime culture? Thanks everybody for all the advice!

btw should i bring like American Express Travellers CHECKS?

Or can i merely use a Citibank VISA credit card and just have alittle cash on hand? (YEN)

Just be careful, a lot of places do not accept credit cards, and ATMs are NOT 24 hours over there. Make sure you have plenty of cash availiable for any activities you want to do that day.

so i understand it's about 125 YEN for 1 American Dollar, which is wacked to try and get accustomed to, a 20dollar meal is like 2,500 YEN, that 2,500 figure mekes it feel like alot! Do more locals in their 20's have a better comprehension of English than people in their 40's? I'm trying to get a grip on whom to approach when I get lost & or need help!

More than likely, they'll approach you! Alot of the younger folks are shy about speaking English and may not want to embarass themselves, but I do believe that English is required in schools, so alot of them should be able to at least speak a few words. I'd say you'll have a little bit better luck finding a younger person that speaks English than an older person, as long as the younger person isn't too shy to try out their English.

Alot of the signs in the train stations in Tokyo are written in English as well as Katakana or Kanji, so you should be able to navigate through the city pretty easily. Dunno about Osaka, never made it down there, but I'd bet it's about the same.

Be forewarned, taxi cabs are rediculously expensive! Avoid them at all costs if you can!
