I Have a choose between these 2 hard drives for the same price:

MAXTOR 250Gb IDE 7200rpm 16MB U133 (#6B250R0)

SEAGATE 250Gb 7200rpm 8M U150 SATA (# ST3250823AS)

Witch one should I get, and why ?

I'm leaning towards the Maxtor because of the 16 MB Cache.

I don't care that the cables are different sizes, and I have only a Cheap CAse and Power Suply so I'm not sure if I have the right connector on it for Sata, I bought it about 1 year ago and I think it's a 380 W or maybe 350 W.

THanks for all your help.

The Seagate, the 5 year warranty on them cannot be beat. I've yet to own a Maxtor that didn't cause my problems, both technical and with their customer support.

Seagate. What could you be doing that could need 16mb buffer? And sATA is the better conector choice. Besides, Maxtor is really starting to get a bad rep.

You should probably find out if your motherboard supports SATA before you buy the Seagate if you don't know already.

Oh, and look inside your case too to see if you need to get a power adapter for it.

Do you have a SATA cable already too?

I'd go with the Seagate too.

ok My Motherboard is a MSI nForce 2 K7N2 Delta, so with a Sata HD you have to buy the Sata Cable to and probly a Power cable adpter ?

if this is so I will be going for the Maxtor.

Thanks again.

You've been advised many times to get the Seagate, and given the higher failure rate of Maxtors, you'd be wise to take that advice.

yes, possibly. when you install windows (i assume it'll be your boot drive) you have to make a floppy w/ the SATA drivers. without a floppy drive, you have to use a Cd, which isn't as convenient, in my opinion.

just curious, why would you not have a floppy drive? they cost like $0. Also, my motherboard came with like 4 SATA power adaptors, if you pay shipping, you can have one if you need it.

EDIT: Seagate.

Seagate and a new power supply. I would never trust a $5 power supply to hundreds in computer equipment. If you think about it that is esentially what you are doing.

Well I found out my MB dosen't have SATA, I'm going with the Maxtor it has 3 year warrenty so I'm don't care about the other 2 years, thanks for all your help !

Next May 25. What a great birthday present.... to win this bet........ 🙂

EDIT: okay, so it's a crappy birthday present.
