Last night I tried to go to bed at 1 am, I tossed and turned and my heart rate was fast and constant for 4 hours. Finally at 5 I went to bed and woke up at 8 am. I called in sick from work and tried to lay down and hope that I just get exhausted and passed out. Didn't happen. I went shopping, had a date come over, ate, watched a movie, saw her off.

Then it's 9pm tonight and I decide, I need to catch up on sleep. I take two sleeping pills and try to crash. An hour later, not only am I not falling asleep, but my heart rate is still pounding and I'm just not falling asleep.

So at 10 pm, I figure, screw it, I'm gonna tire myself out and force myself to crash. I get up and work out. And I don't mean push ups and sit ups, I mean I work my body OUT. I do jacks, lifts, push ups, press ups, mountain crawls. A full cycle work out for a WHOLE hour. 11 pm and I'm STILL not crashing. I put on slow paced music, lay down, just lay there and count. Still nothing.

Now it's 12:30 so I took one more sleeping pill. (The last one I'm going to take) Every limb on my body feels needly like it wants to sleep but my mind is WIDE AWAKE. I don't know what the hell to do guys, HELP me.

And no don't suggest a doctor. I'm a part time employee with no medical benefits. Going to a hospital would kill me just as bad as fainting. I need home-made remedies for this. Someone help me figure out what's wrong

No alcohol. A boring movie might help. The weird thing is, the shit I think about while I"m trying to sleep isn't even shit that's important. It's like random shit that happens at work, stuff that doesn't even bother me. I just keep replaying stupid events in my head.

Here is a good read. You sound like you could benefit from trying melatonin. Doesn't work for me at all, but it does help some people. And it's non-addictive, and good for just relaxing the mind in getting ready for sleep. I used to take Tylenol PM every night, which is bad due to the Tylenol--they make "Tylenol Simply Sleep" which is nice as it is the same thing as Tylenol PM minus the Tylenol. Right now I'm taking Ambien CR which seems to be working alright.

As far as finding out what is wrong, it could be any number of things, from diet to exercise to stress. Alcohol should be avoided, as a person doesn't get a good nights sleep when you are passed out (no REM from what I understand).

Hows your caffeine intake?
Have you been sick and taking anything like sudafed? (many cold meds contain pseudoephidrine)

Did you try falling asleep with a movie in the background or something? (if you have a TV anywhere close)

I find that having some sort of background noise helps alot with sleeping... Usually people talking works best, but it can be anything, like rain etc

i second the melatonin, i have used it and it worked for me,you find it in the suppliment area with bee pollen and vitimin c and not with the sleep aids, it's something the body produces naturally so it won't have the side efect that unisom or simular pills will have.

Well, tomorrow go pick up some melatonin and 5HTP at the health food store, but as for tonight try reading to get your eyes tired then when you lay down pretend you are putting each part of your body to sleep one part at a time, slowly.

Next time try not to do anything physical or consume any caffeine for two hours before bedtime.

People talking made it worse. My mom and brother in law were outside my room talking and I wanted to go outside my room and smash everything.

I guess I'll try playing a movie.

I'll pick up some stuff tomorrow, it's my day off I just have a meeting from 7-9 which pisses me off because I HATE having to be somewhere in the morning with no sleep.

Not sure what state you live in, but most of them require pseudoephedrine meds to be stored behind pharmacy counters. What with the meth heads stealing it and being retarded ass hardcore destructive twits.

I am not sure what can help the OP, because my insomnia troubles seemed to get a lot easier as I aged. (I am only 25 now, but I had serious problems with insomnia through most of high school)

Reading seemed to help the most, but can be a deterrent if the story is so great you want to stay up longer to find out what happens, which has happened to me many times.

I tried some sleeping pills for a while, and they did not seem to work that great, but still might be worth a try.

Or the infinite expanses of space, or try to imagine the number of stars in the universe, or picture the effects of intense gravity acting on matter, energy, and spacetime as your mind's eye approaches the event horizon of a black hole.
Well I find it to be relaxing to think about that stuff, anyway. :)

Sometimes I try to square root numbers as far as I can go. Before you think it's too dorky, I suck balls at math and can't go passed the first square root, so I try the next one.

Guys I'm still not sleeping. I put on Blood Diamond, a movie I can't get into for the life of me and I STILL CAN"T sleep.

I'm at a VERY angry point. I'm PISSED OFF. Why the hell do I have a sleeping disorder? This came out of nowhere. I haven't had more than 4 hours of sleep since THURSDAY night.

Not being able to not sleep at one point in time does not constitute a sleeping disorder. Try living with it constantly. What really sucks is when the medication you take every night to sleep stops working, or they have delays in getting the medications. After 3 days of no sleep, it is considered an emergency as far as I'm concerned, and I would have taken some stuff some time ago. Tylenol PM should work. Also, stop watching a movie or anything like that. I would remove all stimulus--no movies, no ATOT, nothing.

The best way to sleep is to not try. ;)
