Can anyone argue that after cigarette makers, pop/soda makers have had the best of all worlds when it comes to marketing??
I'm not sure what you mean. Pop has not had a verifiable link to cancer, unlike smoking.

been caffeine free for a good 5 years now, well except for the stuff that you eat that you don't know has caffeine

there is a lot of caffeine free pop's that you can switch too that arn't diet varieants, some root beers, some oranges, some sprites all come caffeine free without the diet no taste version

drink tea instead.
also, isnt' caffine a hunger suppresent?

as for side effects, most people feel extra lathargic for a few days, and headaches. my father tried to quit but was unable, he had been drinking coffee so long that he got migranes if he didn't have any high dosage of caffine

Good luck man. I did this about two weeks ago, and still am going strong. No soda (at all), no coffee, or anything. Personally it's killing me. I would slaughter my whole family for a drop of the precious liquid. Well, not that bad. I've been showing the symptoms though -- i've been very tired/sluggish and having headaches. I've been exercising regularly and it helps a lot.

You should bounce back eventually, just make sure you drink enough in place of all the soda/coffee you were drinking before. And when you do bounce back it will be better than before.

I drink half-caffeinated Maxwell House and Caffiene free diet pepsi pretty much exclusively. Caffeine gives me freakish paisley viewing migraines if I'm not very careful with it.
If I drink two cups of 500 mile coffee I damn near crawl out of my skin.
A couple regular diet pepsi's will keep me awake all night.

good luck.
i drink coffee and coke.
usually a cup of each a day. maybe two.
been off coffee for a bit, as ive been sick. best way to get started on quiting something like this.
so...
go get sick.
seriously, though. good luck...i know its not considered a hardcore addiction, even when taken in the context of how seriously people accept cigarettes...but its hard stuff.
the thing about soda, i find, is that once you get off it for a while...if you drink it, it is pretty disgusting.

I'm pulling for you. I know a lot of people who've quit caffeine, and it can only be good for you in the long run. :)

yeesh don't be so extreme. set yourself up for failure. just cut back gradually. 4liters is one extreme, nothing is another extreme. both rather stupid.
